Any fool with a tiny PC can make OSc sites. And they don't come any smaller than this... http://www.gumstix.com/oscommerce-2.2ms2/catalog/index.php0

Can anyone help.I am a *complete* novice when it comes to websites.I have registered the domain name, downloaded the free FTP software, and purchased the Easysite Web building programme.I have uploaded this to my webspace which is free with NTL but nothing is happening when I click on the programme. My Grandfather told me there are two kinds of people those who do the work and those who take the credit.

I'm with you sandinista, I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with this really, really easy web thing. I just want to upload one web page using Serif webplus 6.0 but every time I go to publish it fails. Then I go to the power host to upload from there. This works but then it doesn't seem to be able to see the page as displayed in Serif (it has a .wff at the end).
Am I missing something here? (oh I also tried the webdwarf software ............... didn't work either).0 -
its unlikely you want the file to be saved as a !!!!!!...in your package can u ssave the file as a html or htm? if so try that...and see what happens. give me a shout if else...neil0

Hi,
kinda new to web publishing - doing an OU web development course at the moment but only just started, still learning HTML! I have managed to publish 1 very basic web page previously to my space on my e-mail server - but my file had to be named 'index.htm'. I think I am correct in saying that ALL home (1st) pages need to be called that. Feel free to put me right!
Also, the type of font used can affect the way your page is viewed in various browsers. For safety, until you get it viewing correctly, use something simple like arial/helvetica/verdana.
There is so much info to digest it's really offputting. I was hoping this thread might be a bit more basic, if that's possible!Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

Again correct...i would be cautious about using any other fonts really, stick to basic fonts and you should be fine...
remember unfortunately, what may look good in internet explorer may not look the same on firefox so if you are creating a serious site make sure you try to view it on a number of different browsers.0 -
Hey Statman have you found anyway round your problem?.I've been playing round with Serif Web builder but when I upload the file it dosn't display as a webpage in the browser, seems to be the same problem you're having :mad:My Grandfather told me there are two kinds of people those who do the work and those who take the credit.
