  • I'd recommend https://www.photobox.co.uk - I ordered 2 calendars on line and got one of the photos mixed up in one of them. just before Christmas they managed to reprint it and send it out to arrive on christmas eve - with no additional charge, despite it being my fault.

We have been getting photo calendars for several years now and we use a company called Hampton Print.
They are particularly good if you need to order a few as we usually do as they get cheaper. I did do the comparisons last year with Snapfish, Photobox etc and these still worked out cheaper if you were wanting to order more then 5.

They look really good and I would be very tempted if I wanted identical ones, but I customise mine for each person. As I tend to do more than five, £9.99 is a very good price. :T

Just to add that they also charge for uploading your own images (plus whilst you are on their site watch out for their aggressive sales techneques). Also to bear in mind is the print quality from Vista isn't great, it's quite a course cmyk process method. If you want good quality then look to the digital photo companies that other members have mentioned.
    Hope this is useful.

For these calenders you are NOT charged for uploading images and the quality was excellent.

Including p&p & tax, I was charged £4.80 and I received them in less than a week (even though I paid for slow postage).

You do have to watch their sales techniques and be careful what you click on - however I was really impressed with the product, price and delivery.
  • Saw some lovely small desk calanders in Muji in town (leeds) the other day. They cost around £7 and you can slot your own photos in them just like a photo album, so you don't have to rely on internet providers printing it for you. Good cheap option.

Not sure I call it excellent, I work in the print industry and Vista's print quality is average at best. Compared to the photo specialists, Vista's cmyk process is poor. But, like with everything, you get what you pay for and Vista may well be cheaper. Give them a try, you won't have much to loose (but don't expect the best print quality).

I've been printing my own for a few years now - the only thing that lets them down is the binding. How do staples do them? For example, the ones I usually do are A4, portrait shaped, a month to a page, usually 14 sheets in total - can they bind along the top using the "proper" calendar type binding?

I did get a price from a local print shop, but they were about £5 ish each just to bind - it mounts up when you're doing half a dozen or so.

I use those slide-on plastic thingies that cost just a few pence, (sorry don't know what they are called). Sort of triangular with an open end that grips the pages. Most stationery/office supply places have them - they come in different colours and in packs of 6+. Usually come to fit the long side of A4 but can easily be cut with a hacksaw to whatever length you want. Fancy cord can be fed along the top for hanging. Its easy for the recipient to just remove the 'thingy' to change the month.

oooh...just found some...they are called 'slide binders'

Staples have been binding my calendars for the last 2 years. I make my own 12 page A4 designs, print them myself and then just pay for the wire binding + hanging hook. Staples do a very good job and take great care to make your creation look professional,.. but beware of their pricing.
Last year I was charged £1.30 (per calendar) in September.. but as Xmas approached it had gone up to £4.99! This price was for the wire binding plus the addition of a front and back cover, which I didn't need.
I argued with them and finally they agreed to drop the price to £2.99 for wire binding only.
Still a far cry from the £1.30 Sept price! Staples are one of the many companies that get greedy during the holiday season!
If anyone knows of a shop that offers wire binding any cheaper please yell

Sorry - did you open my post yesterday morning and see what I received?

You have already made incorrect comments about being charged for the uploads.

We are talking a simple photo desk calender, meant as a stocking filler/small gift - less than a fiver!
