I Recently left BT to move to Virgin. This followed the way BT messed up my account. I had an account for the telephone. My wife had an account for her broadband. Without our knowledge, BT amalgamated the 2 accounts then proceeded to totally lash up our bills for number of months, claiming they could not reinstate our accounts to what we had signed up for previously.

The icing on the cake was BT's refusal to refund 9 months owing from my advance line rental.

Rip-off BT will not be getting any money from me again.
  • Called Sky and got £4.40 back!

Also called PlusNet, and was advised because the account was cancelled 2.5 years ago they do not hold any records. I explained that I had 6 years to claim back any credits there may be, and that they should hold all data for 6 years. I got nowhere!

Anyone have any thoughts on how I can proceed?

I left Sky after giving the required notice when I was moving house, I didn't leave a forwarding address to send a final bill to as I didn't want to be bothered by them. As I paid by DD , I thought the money was finalised. I really didn't think I'd be owed anything ... 2 years later I've read the article and contacted them via online and been told I will get £22 back! Very happy.
I can't be bothered updating this anymore

Put the request in writing, at least it should be looked at properly that way.

After I left Primus and they failed to return the outstanding portion of the last month's DD I called them to ask for the money. They told me that they only offer a refund if the customer gives a month's notice before leaving. Now I'm fairly certain that I would've noticed that when I read the Terms and Conditions upon joining. So I suspect they've changed them while I was a customer..

That was before I read this article though, so I'm wondering whether this would trump their one month rule or whether I have no case?

When I joined Primus they told me the price would be fix for the duration of my 18 months contract.. Another lie, it would appear :(.

    Many thanks for reading this.

Using O2's online form, I got £5.77 back and I closed my account over a year ago. It was very straightforward and there's no harm in filling in the form!
  • The last online bill for my landline showed an £8.46 refund due, and advised calling 0870 4441820 to arrange it. I called 02034415550 instead (an alternative equivalent thanks to SayNoTo0870) but it did not recognise my landline number because the account was already closed!

Undeterred, I called a TalkTalk sales line on 0113 3458345 and was transferred to an accounts department (in India?). After speaking to 3 separate operatives I was finally promised the refund by direct credit to my account.
