I've looked at some zumba clips and it looks tremendous fun. Then I try to put myself in the picture (short, dumpy, unfit, middle-aged with zero co-ordination and minus-zero sense of rhythm) and thought that maybe it isn't for me. I'm even scared to do a keep-fit DVD at home in case the postman walks past the window!
    "Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.

    Hi copperjar,

glad the job is going well even if the travelling is less than desirable, but at least its only for 3 months though and not forever. Get yourself to that zumba class it'll be fun. I bet hardly anyone there has any rhythm anyway.

The training is going well for me, I've lost about a stone :j:j.
Exercising in a class has done me the world of good, I've met loads of great people and we all push each other that extra mile to get more out of workouts. The effort levels I put in have more than doubled compared to working out alone and I really think that is why the weight has moved. Still want to lose another stone if i can though, although this one will take a lot longer to come off.

The great north run is not until september 18th so i've got 10 weeks tomorrow to try any get fitter so i can run some of it.

Nights out are taking their toll on the savings at the moment. Far too many birthdays and weddings and holidays getting in the way of my deposit.

No news on the romance aspect of life though :( But its summer and I don't need anyone to cuddle up to until the colder months. :rotfl:

Hope next week at work is better for you and you have more to do so you arent just making it up as you go along.

    Hey copperjar,

Hows the job/trainging/life the universe and everything going?

Just a quick hello to say I finally got my act together and entered a race. Completed the great north 10k today as a little warm up for the great north run in september. Boy do I have a lot of work to do to get ready for that.

You up for the challenge of a race yet?

    IWAH.

Hey IWAH :) Wow, well done on your 10k! That's excellent. I'm really not good at the running thing - the treadmill scares the hell out of me and I end up just walking on it otherwise I think I'm going to go flying off the end a la Bridget Jones!! So I don't really know if a race would be the way for me to go, but my brother is a runner and he's been trying to persuade me to sign up for a 10k sometime, so maybe.... ;)

What class did you join at the gym? I keep saying I'm going to but never do. Latest excuse is the new job. By the time I get home its 6.45ish, then I need a little rest (:o), then tea and before I know it, its 9pm and I'm in my pyjamas! My friend does circuits and has said its done him wonders...but it looks bloody hard! I'm currently psyching myself up to get to the gym this afternoon, so if I go, I'll see what classes are available. Again :o

Have really been sticking to my slimming world plan though, so I'm hoping I'll have lost something when I weigh in tomorrow. Just doing it myself without classes, but I've got all the books and some digital scales. The only issue is the amount of money I'm spending on food! Fresh fruit, veg and healthy food is expensive - I'm sure I spend as much a week on myself as a family of 4 would do! But its good to have nice things to eat when dieting/eating healthily otherwise I'd just give up!

Work is going pretty well, but I've pretty much just been left to get on with it, no induction at all and only about a hour spent with my boss. Its not on really but I don't think I'm going to get anything more than that so not much point moaning about it. Have loads of stuff to read which will help me get my head round stuff, so that's the plan for next week.

Love life is also non existent but I can't say I'm doing that much to change that! Everyone I know are married or in LTRs, although most seem irritated by their OHs so I don't think I'm missing out on that much!

    Hi CJ,

Its been a while since I've been on, busy busy busy.

I didn't really join a class at the gym per se. Joined a bootcamp instead, much better than being stuck in the same place doing the same things over and over. It has a much friendlier atmosphere too as we are all working through it together motivating each other, and cheering each other on. There are lots of companies all over the country that do it, you should look into it in your area. I got sick of going to the gym and working out with 30-50 other people and not speaking to a single one of them. This way is much better. I work much harder than in a gym, i'm toning up more and feel much stronger and healthier. Plus the air isn't recirculated air conditioner cr*p, its good fresh outside air. Even the rain and mud don't stop us, it just makes it more fun.

The trick to getting to the gym could be going on the way home from work before eating? I find that eating before exercising just means putting it off as waiting a couple hours after makes it too late, evening meals signal lazing around watching tv after. It will be tiring at first but you'll get into a routine. An afternoon snack helps to put off hunger and keep you going before exercise.

Hows the slimming world and work going?

  • I've not just neglected this thread - I've abused it! Been over a month since I last posted. All going well, the diet is slooow, but the fitness is picking up and I've been going to the gym 3x a week - now into my 4th week. Really enjoying it and feeling much fitter - but I do wish it was a more sociable experience. I keep talking about joining a class (or bootcamp - thanks for the idea IWAH) but then never do it.
My usual pattern is to talk about something a lot (stopping smoking, paying my CCs, dieting, getting fit), then trying it a few times before getting so annoyed at myself for faffing about that I just go all out and do it!! This can take time though - but CCs have been paid off and not added to, still a non smoker (YAY! Best achievement to date) and now into the gym and diet in a big way. So hopefully I will eventually get round to joining a class!

I'm also doing a bit more - so off to watch Boro play Burnley this Saturday, have also booked a 2-day spa break with my friend in October and have been saying yes to nights out.

Still single (boo) and can't see that ever changing the way I'm going - but I'm not pining after the ex at all any more (there's another thing I finally just said enoughs enough and stopped pretending to be friends), although I do still get the odd pangs of annoyance at her!

IWAH - how's your deposit coming along? GNR is just around the corner as well - how's the training going?

Do any of you use twitter btw?

Right, think that's it for now!

  • Hi Copperjar,

I've neglected the whole site for a long time now. I had a few trips away over the past few months and have been seeing a lot more of my friends so I haven't had the time to log on here for very long at all.

The saving is not going well. I am due a little payment from a successful PPI reclaim which should help to top it up and kick start me back into the zone.

The exercise trailed off for me a bit but i'm getting stuck back into that too.

Well done you for getting more positive and getting your life on track. Single life isn't all bad really, you can do whatever you like without having to worry about anyone else, and there are many other perks too.

I have a twitter account but never check it or post anything. Although a few of my friends say it's really good, I guess I just haven't gotten round to giving it a chance yet. Facebook just seems much easier to get to grips with and keep in contact with old and new friends with too.

I'm promising myself that I'll exercise 4 times this week and get out the house more on an evening and make the most of them, rather than waste them watching tv waiting for the clock to hit bed time.

GNR is off sadly, I just haven't had the time to train for it so I'm going to defer my place until next year as I don't want to injure myself and end up unable to exercise for months. I will do it next year though, as I'll start training early and will make an effort rather than always tell myself that i'll do it tomorrow.
