I grew up in Woking and whilst I wouldn't want to live there now, there are some nice areas around Woking such as Hook Heath, Horsell, Chobham. Woking has an excellent rail link into London which is why it is so popular and expensive. The not so nice part of Woking is Maybury (apologies to anyone living there). Goldworth Park on the edge of Woking is a sprawling housing estate but popular with families.
Guildford is beautiful but expensive but again has it's cheaper areas, such as Stoughton.
I also think it is vital that you consider school catchment areas, even though your child is still only young.
 Hope this helps.0

Don't want to be picky, but Frimley is actually in Surrey. I lived there most of my life, so I should know!! And Farnham is in Surrey too, I went to schoool there.buglawton wrote:Have a look at Hampshire too, some areas around Farnham are nice. I work in Frimley Hants, some nice places tucked away around here.
But that is true, Farnham and around can be quite nice, but rather expensive.0

 Addlestone
 Chessington
 Tolworth

No suitable properties to rent in the areas you mentioned above I'm afraid! Couldn't find any in Stoughton either.
I widened my search to within 5miles of Guildford. Quite a few places came up such as Farnborough, Knaphill, Aldershot, Ash (is Ash Vale the same place?) & Camberley. Some of these places are in Hampshire. The crime figures for Hampshire are not as attractive as Surrey but surely 5miles shouldn't make such a big difference?Dummie0

Hey the military are not that bad thank you very much - at least you know if war kicked off in our country you would be safe!!! :rotfl:
My husband is military and we live in Brookwood, Surrey - really lovely area close to Woking, Guildford, Frimley, etc and has a local school, shops, etc.
p.s. hoping to be posted to Aldershot as I want to stay in the Surrey area and it's the only posting we can go for.~ What's for you, won't go past you! ~0

I live near those areas and it is nice. There are a lot of ameneties near by and has easy access to a large town centre (Kingston) and very quick access by car to central London or even by train.
Kingston schools are very over subscribed and children living in Kingston struggle to get places :mad:0

I have lived in Milford, Guildford, Bisley (near Brookwood) and, now, Horsell.
If I had a choice of any of them I would go for Milford.0

I have fond memories of Horsell, lived in Bulbeggars Lane until age 12 and later married at the church on top of the hill. Would love to live in an established village again one day but Horsell is out of my league at the moment.Innys wrote:I have lived in Milford, Guildford, Bisley (near Brookwood) and, now, Horsell.

There are some 3 bedroom places available in Camberley on rightmove for £895/£850, so you might be lucky and be able to haggle. Camberley isn't a bad area. Also found 1 3-bed in Guildford for £900, some more in Frimley, Frimley Green. All areas that seem quite nice.
 Good luck!
