I'd get something from a 'cult' make-up range, like Pout, or skincare range, like Elemis (QVC do reasonably priced gift-sets)

Got to think of a present for my Sister in Law who is much better off then us, has everything she could possibly want and quite picky style-wise. We've already done the photos in a nice frame thing at least twice, and I'm completely stuck. She knows we're broke so won't mind not getting something expensive, but want to make an effort to make/get something she knows we thought about. Only I'm stuck! Have browsed other threads and nothing struck me so far. She's early 40's, fashion and style conscious and always beautifully turned out.....(unlike me!) Any inspiration?

Don't know what has been said above but my twopenneth is that it has to be personal and homemade, something money can't buy.

Do you bake, preserve, make sweets? They are always good.
If you have children, personalised mugs painted with ceramic paint and then baked.
Children's artwork in a frame (or would that mess up her designer style house?)

How about a voucher for a massage or manicure and pedicure. This always goes down well with my friends.

How about decorating a plant pot to fit in with her colour schemes. Something that takes time and looks good.
  • Thanks so much to all of you who took the time to post suggestions. I am now tooled up with ideas not just for SIL but for several other friends I was struggling with too! I just love so many ideas - what a creative lot you are. I think I may plump for the childrens art idea plus personalised goodies (we have a child, she doesn't) but will be supplied for ideas for a while to come yet!

    Thanks again

A box to keep it in?

I gave up jogging for health reasons; my thighs rubbed together and my knickers caught fire!
  • Buy a calendar like this one from http://www.gettingpersonal.co.uk/toys.asp/View/80/buy/browse-personalised-calendars.htm

Use the code membersave3 to save 3 quid off each one.

They might have everything but I would bet a decent sum that they have never had a calendar made up of their own names before.

I gave some to friends of mine last Christmas and they absolutely loved them, by far the best present they had.

some awesome gifts on there!
  • WOW you people of full of fab ideas just a couple of thoughts:-

Check out eBay for designer items on auction cheap although the bidding is starting to get quite mad at the moment in the build up to Xmas already

You could buy her Paypal vouchers/credit so she can pick something from eBay and/or put money towards something more expensive.

Know you said you've done the photo thing before so you might have done this but how about a colleage type picture made of family members, special occasions with spare/copied photos you have round the house - a frame should cost no more than a fiver to finish it off.

I know you SIL has loads of stuff so perhaps buy her a smaller gift then offer to do something, maybe babysit credit her some time to go out if she needs it.

My friend is in her thirtys single and has everything next year so i am getting her a carolgess candle http://www.carolgeescandles.com/ from the spit the dog man!! She used to love TISWAS when she was younger (had many a drunken conversation about it.

Someone directed me to this site as she had a candle made in memory of a loved one - she emailed me the photos it looked lovely. I know it is more costly than normal candles but really original and different.
