how do i take a reading from a 'dial' meter?

I am quite concerned that this could be the case.
I have been in again to the meter room when I got home abd can't find anyone elses meter with the serial number they suggest is my "main" one. Either side of my meter are the two neighbours' meters with labels or stickers on respectively to show their flat number.
I have spoken to Npower yet again this evening, they have suggested they will make an appt for someone to come out and look (which is exactly what their letter said they had already done, but I really don't think they could have).
They assured me i'd be called with an appt time by the end of the day so that I could have plenty of notice to arrange the tome off work, but of course they haven't called yet. I'll ring in the morning.
Thanks for the advice re missed appts direct debacle, I'll mention that to them tomorrow when I call.0 -
I think its most likely you have a faulty meter. There is no other meter or it has been bypassed by a previous occupant. Npower might just be reading from their pc screens that you have two and possibly their records never got updated if one was removed.0

Hopefully that will be the case - at least then they'd be able to fix the one which is there and update their records.
If that is the case, how would I figure out what energy I had used for the time it had been broken, so that i
could figure out what to pay?0 -

Can you post a picture of all of your equipment including the interconnecting wiring?
The timeswitch appears to be set to the correct time assuming that the time on your camera is correct but it is set to come ON at noon and OFF at 3:00PM - why? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Guy on the little video here shows this meter near the end.. see http://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/electricity-meter/0

espresso, thanks for your response - the timer is a sealed unit, as you can see, I cannot alter the time. That said, npower have told me this timer is connected to what they tell me is the off-peak meter, from which nothing runs anyway since the heaters were disconnected.

Here is a link to my equipment in the meter room, as you can see - one digital-view meter, which doesn't change. Npower tell me this serial number is the one they say is my off-peak meter, and i should have another.
One timer device, and one power-switch.
As you can see from the partial switch, that's next doors, so there is no obvious space where my supposed second meter has ever been / should be.0 -
Thank you for the video link, I really didnt' think mine had a button on it. I will check again next time i am at the property.
Thank you for your responses, I am really confused by the whole situation.
Npower have managed to get me an appt for an engineer to call out and look at the meters, in a couple of weeks time.0 -

The video doesn't help as it is a timeswitch not a meter. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Do any of the other flats have this timer switch arrangement. If so where are their meters? Probably a long shot but have you thoroughly checked inside your flat for a meter.0

Yes i've checked in the flat, and there is no meter inside. The majority of the meters in the room are more modern-looking things, although i noticed at least one other similar timer device, like mine. I have had no real advi8ce from Npower, but am hoping that when the engineer comes out, they will be able to shed some light, or at least update their records and stop asking me for two readings. If there isn't another, there is the possibiolity that the existing meter is broken, not just off-peak.
Ì can see the resolution to this being costlyWhat if I've paid the wrong amount for the last few yrs? I have had my bills updated with their apparently "actual" readings, but i don't understand where the readers would be getting two meter readings from. And it really annoys me that i have already complained about this, and they have just sent me a fob-off letter, and have clearly not been out to the property, regardless of what they say.
