Just ordered the £44 set. I've been looking for a decent quality set at a good price for ages so thanks OP. First time I saw this thread they had all gone so I've been checking in every now and then...today is my lucky day :)

so which is the best ones to have?

Depends if you want lips and drainers or vented lids... however, another difference is that the £49.99 set has a 20cm casserole pan instead of the Multi steamer in the £44 set. So I guess it will depend on which is more useful to you (or the intended victim). If you are only going to use 3 out of the set maybe you would be better buying the ones you want individually.
  • I would like a close fit on the lid of the suacepans. Would I be beter off going for the non-draining version of this 6 pack i.e the £49 set? Thanks.

    Thanks to the OP.

Have ordered the £49.99 set, as I think I will use the casserole more than the steamer. Can anyone who has already received theirs give me an idea how long they took to be delivered.

    Thanks v much.

    Can anyone answer this question?

Should I be looking for Teflon coated ones?

No - don't see the point for saucepans - as long as you are gentle with the heat stainless steel is much better - I mostly use saucepans for cooking veg in boiling water or steaming veg above boiling water in which case there is no advantage with non-stick. For soups, risottos etc I use a Le Creuset cast iron casserole which can also go in the oven (got cheap from amazon a few years ago). The only time I find non-stick useful is for things like fried eggs, omelettes, crepes etc - all of which I would use a frying pan for - I have 3 of these ones in different sizes and they have lasted well: http://www.pots-and-pans.co.uk/acatalog/MeyerProChoice.html

The main mistake I have seen a lot of people make (eg flatmates ruining my pans! :( ) is to whack the heat up (gas stove) and then keep it at that level - once the oil/butter or whatever you are using gets beyond a certain temperature it will burn and so will your food! Start nice and gently to warm up the saucepan, then turn it up to start cooking and then turn it down to a lower heat if necessary - better for the life of your pans too.

If you only have boiling water in the pan (for veg etc) once it has come to the boil turn it down so that it just keeps a gentle 'rolling' boil - boiling water isn't going to get any hotter than 100 degrees celcius and if the heat is on full whack your pan will either boil over or boil dry and you might melt the plastic handles of the saucepan too. Sounds obvious but I have lost count of the number of people I have seen do this! For some foods (Custard, porridge) it's even worth buying a heat diffuser to put on the gas ring as even the lowest flame can be too hot.

I ordered 18/10 and they were delivered 20/10 - £49.99 set and I'm chuffed with them. Same here, casserole much more useful than a steamer for our purposes.

Just went to buy them and yet again another retailer with high P&P charges to N.Ireland £14.95,although is a good bargain for some
  • I bought my £44.95 set Wednesday 25th, and received them Friday 27th. I am so pleased with them! What made me even happier was walking past a pro kitchen shop on the weekend, saw a 4 piece Judge set without the draining holes or lips for £80. Definitely got a bargain :)
  • I got the £49 set. Delivered in 2 days. Quality is very good and thought I'd bagged a real bargain, but they're the same price in TK MAXX I noticed at the weekend!! They're never worth the RRP though- RRP means nothing!!
