A while ago we bought an el cheapo 3 piece saucepan set frmM&S for £9 now £9.50 although not the best it is cracking value. TKMaxx is also worth a look for pans, fryingpans, woks, knives and other kitchen utensils.

What I have found (And experenced cooks please correct me if I'm wrong), is that stainless steel get hotter quicker so are more prone to burning food. They also transfer the heat better too.

The good thing is that even the blackest remains scour off with a brillo and a bit of elbow grease(available from all good corner shops) cause no damage.

Thats an average bloke talking BTW.

Well I 'think' im an experienced cook lol. What I find is that if stuff is sticking, then the pan is too hot for what you are cooking in it.

I only use uncoated stainless steel as non stick just wouldnt stand up to the banging around that it gets from spoons etc. I think the more experienced you are, the less you would favour non stick.

If I need a really hot pan, for say, searing meat, then I use a cast iron one and then transfer to a steel one once the meat is browned.

Turn the heat down and just cook for a minute longer.... no more sticking!:D

The £50 rrp set must be an error - as if you look elsewhere the same set is usually about £80-100 (and I'm sure the RRP would be much higher).

The Judge saucepans with vented lids are in a store called Wildings in Newport, South Wales. No matter what size or type you buy, they have all been reduced to £9 each.

See my post 31 above, I think the RRP should say £230 which would make them a superb deal. It certainly looks identical to me.

If you still want these try looking in your local robert dyas. I went in and got mine today fo £59.99 not quite as cheap, but you do get a free steamer with them, have tried one of the saucepans and it is so much better than my old ones (ok they are old tatty and about 3rd hand, but hey they were my first ever set:rotfl: )
If things are sticking amybe try swilling them with veg oil on a medium heat before you use them, it really helps and prolongs their life as well.

Corse another thing in favour of NOT having non stick is the recent report on the plastics used in the coatings, specially Teflon. Supposed to be somewhat toxic/carcogenic when ingested. Reports found it gradually seeps into food.
  • We bought these saucepans about 5 years ago for around £85, and they are excellent quality. We use very little oil, some times just a bit of fry light, and have no problems with sticking. They always clean easily, and still look in perfect condition.
