Hello lovely people,
I managed to sleep through until 8 which was great. I'd set my alarm for 8.30 as I need to wean myself back into getting up early again.
I decided that we might as well go to the cinema as DD really wanted to see the film (Megamind) & the last day it's on is tomorrow & we have DD1 & her bf coming over & didnt really want to invite them along too ( yes, very mean but have now realised that 3D films cost loads more).
Had a bath & mega vitamin c & felt pretty human so we set off & found a street parking space so saved about £3.30. DD hadnt had any breakfast (on purpose I reckon) so I had to buy her popcorn & a drink so the total cost was £22.10. The film however, was very entertaining & definitely worth the extra for 3D ( not worth it for Gulivers Travels in my opinion).
Unfortunately by the time we came out I had a pounding headache & felt really grim again but ...
DD had a gift voucher to spend so we went to WHS & she bought a new pencil case & a book ( finished the entire Twilight series in just over a week & gets anxious if she doesnt have something to read) & I succumbed to half price crimbo cards. 50 cards for £5, vs me being very grumpy & time-short = no contest I'm afraid. They WILL be sent out the first weekend in December this year ( but please remind me in November
).
Had to get a few bits in waitrose for the week ahead, soups for work, bread, drinks for packed lunches & fruit but only spent £29.17 & that included more nurofen. I've finally got my milk stock to such a level that we wont need to pop to the shop for that & spend money on other stuff.
DD1 & bf are coming to share the bargainous roast chicken so I will need to whizz to co op in the morning & get some more green veg, but plan to use my vouchers for that & have my first NSD.
Neighobur has left a random bag of veg on the doorstep which included some rather bendy carrots,a perfectly fine parsnip, some very squishy wrinkly radishes & a beautifully fresh red cabbage.
Carrots & parsnip will be used tomorrow, radishes going into the compost bin along with the 2 eggs I didnt dare to use as well out of date & eggs arent my favourite at the best of times but ... what on earth do I do with the red cabbage ???
Would be very grateful for any ideas.
I love soup & my plan is to sneak to co op in the evenings & buy all the reduced veg, scrub, chop & fridge it overnight & then leave to cook in slowcooker while at work.
Yes, I know this is what normal people have been doing for years, but I aint no normal kinda person.

Hi Lula! I'm glad you're okay .... sounds like you had a fairly nice day in the end.
Um, not sure about eggs in the compost .... I think they'd attract rats if you did it on a regular basis, tho I'm not sure.
As far as red cabbage is concerned ... it could be used in the soup. It could be chopped into a stir fry. Chucked into the slow cooker with everything else. Don't some people roast it?
Erm, can I just give you a tip on nurofen tho? Check the ingredients ... the active ingredient is actually ibuprofen. Then check the price of Boots value range ibuprofen ... its a couple of quid cheaper.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
hope the lurgy leaves you soon..it sounds awful.
glad you and dd had a nice time at the pictures and hope you're getting plenty of rest.0 -
Sorry you feel yucky Lula. I festered til I could fester no more yesterday. Vomited all day (vile hangover) and then ate loads at night. Had a lovely time with my mate. She's one of those people who needs no entertaining and can happily talk rubbish under a blanket on the couch for hours on end.
Do you like chilli or casserole? I'll give you a recipe X'The road to a friends house is never long'0 -
Red cabbage is lush with a roast. Boil it up and add some cloves, cinnamon stick, maybe some nutmeg and some raisins (if you like fruit in savoury stuff - I know some people don't!) Really nice!I've got my own flat :j:j

Hope you feel better soon. Our slow cooker is a bit big for us too, but we do enough for 8 and freeze the rest. Even if you just use it a couple of times a month for a batch cook it still is a great help.
RE: the cabbage, I would make a healthy coleslaw (with apple/carrot/fennel or something, perhaps some walnuts). Spiced cabbage is traditional to go with meats at this time of year (but feels a bit too christmassy for January for my liking!).
Remind me about the Xmas cards in November too. Every year I say I am going to get better at it!Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

Morning all,
I slept all night until the alarm woke me at 6.30 but the lurgy seems to have 'externalised' which means that I feel much better in myself but am never far from a tissue.
Too much to do to be moping though so after a hearty bacon sarnie ( with apologies to veggies) & cup of tea I have done a load of laundry, cleaned & tidied the kitchen - removing all last terms school paperwork to the recycling bag :j no doubt it will shortly be replace by a new batch *sighs* & am contemplating the ironing ...
Thanks all for the red cabbage ideas - will probably go with makeups idea this time as I have all the ingredients & as my sense of smell is minimal, wont be able to smell it if it's too cabbagey.
I've come across a lovely sounding recipe for homemade cough syrup but it needs some glycerin which apparently can be bought from chemists ? Will have to investigate that, brewing up potions is far more appealing than cooking meals for some reason, quite fancy learning more about herbal remedies too - have a few books on the subject ... so many things I can do when DF & not having to work 3 evenings a week.
Now need to hoover everywhere & crack the room tidying whip at DD. I'm also wondering about serving up 8 year old tinned fruit pie filling for a crumble this afternoon  Will open it & see what lurks within ... :rotfl:0 -
Glycerin can sometimes be found in supermarkets as well as you can use it in cooking I think??? I could be wrong but my memory suggests you use it in making icing?! Basically a thick sugar syrup.
I've got a book like that with some lovely homemade recipes. I mgiht use some of them to make presents for people.I've got my own flat :j:j
