    Just found this statement on BBC Working Lunch;

I am a previous employee of Farepak and project managed their websites. The whole issue has been down to a very poor senior management structure which has resulted in revenue being re-used by the parent company, European Home Retail. This has now meant a shortage to pay suppliers up front. This then means that they are unable to fulfill orders. This has been in the pipe-line for the past 6 months.

I wonder if the National Lottery people would consider us all a good cause and give us some unclaimed prize money!!
So why did they continue fraudently taken money from us when it as been in pipeline for last 6 months, absolutely disgraceful.

I have been told today that profits from other EHR businesses were being gobbled up by the hamper business before the probelms with choice going bust started

as previously stated, by the time the 2 firms of administrators do their worst I doubt there will be anything left at all.

however there are still a few assests left tied up with JML, but I m not sure if that will help as JML will want to buy those out.

The Gov should now pass a law that voucher schemes should be insured for this type of problem.
If this was the case - choice going bust would not have caused all these problems.

I do know that HBOS were owed around 30m and made sure they called in the receivers to get their money - when a deal was on the table that had been worked on for over 3 montha - as Findel wanted to buy the other successful co's.

This gives us all a warning that all firms can suddendly go bust anf if they have your money while your waiting for delivery you can lose out.
Again poor souls with poor credit wont have protection against this if they dont have a credit card.

I feel so sorry for all those people who have lost their money in this way. I wonder if we could get together and help? I have quite a few Nectar vouchers on my card and would be more than willing to donate them. How about it Martin? Can you set something up for us to help? Perhaps you know executives from Sainsbury's, or perhaps Tesco - I am sure their customers would donate some of their points too - worth a try, do you think?
    best wishes, Polly.

I have started a thread where we may be able to help, even in a small way, to those who have lost out though Farepak.

Maybe a little something from us may help in a big way. I don't really know what else to do and I wish i could do more, but I will help in any way I can (as it seems will others).

Take a look at the thread, even if it helps in a little way.

That article doesn't make sense - Farepak was owned 100% by European Home Retail which was a listed plc (formerly called Kleeneze plc). It certainly wasn't 58% owned by some bloke in Halifax.
The company's ownerhsip is made up of shares - the bloke in Halifax obviously had 58% of those shares

Part of the administration process is for the administrators to investigate how the company got into this state and what the directors could have/should have attempted to do to stop this. I will say right now that fraud is one of the most difficult charges to prove. Whilst I am with the majority of people thinking that this smells awful of the word FRAUD I doubt it will be possible for the administrators to prove this!

WHAT???!!! Let's keep things in perspective.
Yes, they're theiving scum, robbing from those who need it.
Yes, it's sickening losing hard-earned money.
Yes, you deserve every bit of sympathy.
Yes, Christmas might be a struggle this year.

BUT Johnny missing out on a PSP or ending up with bangers and mash for Xmas lunch is better than Johnny not being there at all.

I've just been reading about that poor lad who was murdered in Bury and stuck in a wheelie bin, about the same age as my son. The loss of £100, £1000, £10000 does not even begin comparison.

EXACTLY. Perhaps when you feel upset about the lost money, think about those who have lost something far more precious. 'At least you've got your health' may be a cliche but it's true.

Give Johnny a smaller present, he'll probably be happier with bangers and mash anyway and a bigger hug than usual.

This does put things into perspective, and, although I have lost money through this, I have my husband and children who are healthy. I lost my mum when I was 19 and would give anything to have her back.
