was involved with similar situation at my last workplace the receivers charged 96.00 per hour ! to administer the companies affairs waited 18months for pay out which was 19p in the pound they made nearly £48K doing this, they are little more than an organised crime syndicate they all work hand in hand with each other in what is basically a closed shop ,they are completely ruthless and will go out of their way to avoid paying anybody anything.
Yet all this is quite legal and proper (apparently)

More on chargeback
I've been continuing chats with Visa today as the question was raised. Sadly, as expected, its not looking good. There's a few final things left to be confirmed but in essence the case is as follows (i've added this section to my consumer rights article)The difference between chargeback and section 75
Just to emphasise the point - this means when you complain on a credit card under section 75, the credit card company itself is liable, it will try and reclaim your original cash under the chargeback system - but whether it gets it or not is irrelevant to you, it must still pay you regardless. However on a debit card it only has to give you the money back if it can get it - you don't have any claim on your bank for the money - it's just a process to get you the cash back. Which means if you're chasing a company that goes into administration (bust) it's not likely to help.

IMPORTANT UPDATE! SOME HOPE IF YOU PAID ON A VISA DEBIT CARD
I've been talking to Visa this morning to try and nail down the situation about its Chargeback system. This is my final conclusion (its been added to the first post.
Did you pay on a Visa Debit card?
If you paid the money on a Visa debit card, there is some hope (not much but some). According to Visa's rules you can start a 'chargeback' procedure. This means your bank will issue proceedings against Farepack's bank to get your money back. Under Visa's rules (not the law, only Visas rules) the acquirer bank is responsible (ie not the company but its bank) to get the money back in a transaction that hasn't been adequately completed.
Now this is no where near as strong as section 75 consumer credit act protection, but there is a chance if you start procedures this way you can get all your money back. Simply call up your bank and ask it to start the 'Chargeback procedure' - it may not know about this - so you need to explain it is a specific Visa Debit procedure.
If you paid via another type of Debit card, you could have a go at the same process, but the rules are different and no where near as strong.Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

I worked for a Family Hampers (another christmas hamper company) until last february when it too went bust. Some of the customers lost their money, and many employees went without pay. Did the Incompetant chairman of this company have to sell his home? - Nope, he was made chairman of an NHS trust just a week later! Scandalous.0 -

http://www.mansfieldtoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=722&ArticleID=1828138A spokeswoman for Consumer Direct this week told Chad: "Customers do have a legitimate claim and can register that claim with the administrators.
"Agents for the firm are being placed higher up the pecking order as they may be seen as company employees. But that should not stop customers making a direct claim to recover their money."0
