Please Help: O2 broadband cancellation - £50 charge for router

Comments

  • A. Buy a secondhand router same model. I doubt they'd check the s/n.

    B. Ask O2 if you complete the 12 months, will they still want their router back.

    C. Explain the problem to O2. If they don't let you off, pay them £50, or risk legal action.
  • They will probably want the router back even after the end of your contract tbh

Weve just been sent a new router by O2 as the old one was playing up and we still have to return the old one or we will be charged £50

We are still with O2 and will be for a while yet...

i also don't think they will ask for the box back then.

Whatever comes, the router is always o2's property (t&cs).
Return or cough up £50. I was with o2 bb (contract finished and paying £2.50 retention offer) when orange started offer of free bb for pay monthly mobily contracts. o2 had the same offer. I asked o2 to match, they couldn't as I still was customer. I asked if I cancel and return, they said, I can't return for 6 months. Moved on to Orange bb.
Asked if I could retain the router, was offered yes, FOR £50 ONLY. I thanked them and they sent prepaid grey envelope.

IN short, Return or cough up £50.

    EDIT:- FAO OP please
Please have look here. It might be of some help. But make sure you return everything: router, transformer, microfilter X2, RJ11 X x, RJ 55 X 1, installation CD, or the charges still stands.

yeah I saw one for sale it was cheap, I am going to buy that one, but I really hope they will not know its not actually mine. I wonder if anyone has experience with this and if they found out?

oh I see. The router i saw was just the router by itself

Another one was selling the whole box (i assume with all the things you listed in it) for £20, bt then run the risk of O2 rejecting the router because "it was not the one they gave me", what
    to do?

    thanks for listing those items.
I just called 02 and said to them not sure what the cables are so she said as long as I return the router and the plug for the router its fine, but it would be better if i send the other stuff in too
now ill just go and buy a cheap router by itself and hope they dont notice

and they cant send the prepaid envelope to my new address, so ill probably pick it up from the old one

thanks to all who contributed to help

    Why can't they?If they can't, you can't.

AS in plain english= ticket back, money back.
If you fail to recieve the prepaid envelope, they forego their right to the router, despite you advise them of your new address.

    Edit:-
They need router and transformer, you mean.

Yes it's the mains adaptor between the router and the wall socket, if you buy a second hand one it should come with that and the cabling-if not it's not much use.
The cabling is the standard phone cable between router and BT socket, and the ethernet cable between router and PC. But presumably you've chucked those away as well...
