Sold item being processed at customs... eBay has refunded buyer!

He might be honest. The item could arrive, and he chooses to repay you. Probably not, but he might do. Try not to be too worried about it though. Easier said than done I know.0

My suspicious mind says they had a notification of customs charges and waited until they could reasonably open a dispute and get a refund. Maybe they waited until they got a refund then paid the charges with the money they had refunded thus getting a very good bargain at your expense.0

I think that sounds a little contrived. Always avoid making these kind of assumptions as it doesn't reflect well on the seller to voice them to someone who is waiting for something or on a public forum where your advice may inspire others to do the same. You have no proof of intention so should usually proceed as if the buyer is genuine. My suspicious mind says they had a notification of customs charges and waited until they could reasonably open a dispute and get a refund. maybe, however you would hope a buyer would be patient when the tracking shows the item is held in their countries customs0 -
OP I would suggest that you adjust the countries you will sell to.
Hope it works out ok in the end.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

Yes agreed, plus the buyer is always responsible for what happens at that point and it's ridiculous that Paypal should have paid out if the item only shows as going through customs --- like eBay they should have mechanisms in place for judging cases based on their own methods rather than just "delivered/not delivered" when the tracking actually shows where the item is. However, I did say that unless you deal with them a lot, you aren't automatically born knowing what goes on with customs issues or what responsibility lies where. People are genuinely stupid, and that has its repercussions on all of us.maybe, however you would hope a buyer would be patient when the tracking shows the item is held in their countries customs
I just find it a bit ridiculous the lengths some people go to to contrive "suspicions" to somehow prove the buyer is trying it on in these sort of cases, even where they have no connection to the case. Only the buyer knows exactly what they are up to. Even if they did have ulterior motives, you can't prove that they have them, and I don't think many people actively play the system; it's usually just ignorance of procedures they may not be terribly familiar with or impatience due to the speed of delivery from elsewhere."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Quick thought: when I appealed eBay's ruling in favour of the buyer, my argument was that the item is on its way to him and he had acknowledged this. When they review the case, will they check the tracking update? It's just updated again to read "item out for delivery".
I'm aware that he may not want to pay charges now, but so long as I get the item back in that case, then fine.
The suspense is killing me...!
If it's updated to say that the item is out for delivery, then there's a chance that it will actually arrive, and show this online, so if it DOES show as delivered, you can appeal this with ebay and get the refund reversed!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Has anybody here ever asked PP to look at tracking on a foreign site?
If the Canadian site showed the item was delivered, would PP actually refuse to look at that?
It would be useful to hear from someone who has been through this (a topic close to my...purse), as I'm still hoping they would, but don't know for sure either way as I haven't been through that myself.0 -
The tracking (on Canadian Post site, terra) has updated again to read: "Item available for pickup at Post Office". So, does this count as delivered, even though the buyer was out?
To clarify where I am in the process:
- eBay ruled in the buyer's favour and closed the case but I appealed on the grounds that the item was obviously en route and the delay was out of my control
- eBay is considering this and I apparently cannot add any further information to the appeal
- Even though eBay sent me an email saying a refund would automatically be issued from my PayPal account, I spoke to PayPal today and they said nothing like that had been registered with them yet
The buyer only opened the case against me on Sunday. It's Tuesday!Debt-free & saving for the next big adventure

So, does this count as delivered, even though the buyer was out?
Unfortunately no. Buyer was probably at work. Delivery has to be proven for buyers.

So do you still have the money?"Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
