Had a giggle when I looked at the properties in the links above, reminds me of the day I spent house hunting yesterday....

I felt really grateful when I came back to my house, I don't live in a big posh house or anything but it's home and felt so lovely after trudging around perspective btl's.

    Hi Tilly,

A tanker of magnolia paint and some hose assistance from the local fire brigade is possibly the best option. We're currently looking at properties at around the £70-100k value mark (albeit negotiating hard at the outset to maximise the profitability of each project). We'll set aside an appropriate budget for each one to get it to a reasonable living standard but each improvement will have to add some value to the house - if it doesn't increase appeal or the rental income, it doesn't go in will be a rule to live by.

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Hi Lulabelle,

That blue kitchen would hit the skip pretty sharpish. The pine number is actually on the street where I grew up so I may well pop in for a wee look next time I'm back in Mayfield. It can't look any worse in person, can it!?! We're currently playing the game of guess the demographic of the inhabitants. There are a good number where 65+ is an easy get but we've identified single cat owner, young gay couple and less than houseproud, dole queue inhabiting, single parent to a bunch of future reprobates (although anywhere near Dalkeith, that's not a big stretch!)

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Hi Gally,

It's poor man's version of the Big House Pub to be sure. There's to be no ironing board in my pub at any time. No olde stylee English puggies either (although granted something is better than nothing!). These are the slot machines we've decided on:

    http://www.slotmachinesltd.com/proddetail.php?prod=IGT-LARRY

Having had a wee look, there are at least another dozen that i'd love to have. We'll maybe pick up one or two a year. The pub/casino slot emporium will need some more work on the designs...

    Cheers,

    Billy

I hadn't even seen the description!! God help anyone who reads that bland nonsense and then turns up to find that the local public house is actually significantly closer than they had bargained for.

There is every chance all my craftmanship will be removed ahead of us vacating the squalor...just in case I end up on the "have you seen this" thread of shame.

Just wanted to pop in and say good luck with the new project Billy , sounds great. I also confess to going on the "have a look at this" thread way to much , it really is entertaining, a nosey look into peoples weird homes, or should that be weird peoples homes!

    Hi Tilly,

We've decided on Ikea stuff as we'll likely leave everything in the house when we go. It's more and more likely that we'll rent out the squalor when the time comes so cheap and cheerful will do fine for the moment.

Am I in the minority or should I not class IKEA as actually pretty good stuff? I guess people are looking down their noses at me now with a mild look of disgust, or tilting their heads to one side with a look of "its a shame", written all over it?!! :D

You say cheap and cheerful Billy but I reckon that IKEA stuff will still be standing for a good while yet........

*goes back up to his cheap seat* :o

    All the best

Suffice to say there's never a dull moment in our household and always a twinkle in the eye when the tool box comes out of the garage!

Sorry Tilly but couldn't resist, but is this a tongue-in-cheek statment or are you actually talking about tool boxes? :rotfl:

Tickled me reading it back to myself whilst catching up on the thread....

    Cheers

    Thanks newgirly,

I'm hooked with it. Surely if you're selling your house, you at least have a bit of a declutter. Some of the listings are disgusting.
