    Greetings Billy

A bit of searching around and here is the latest..
PC World uses DHL as their main courrier service, however they are free to delegate their deliveries to whoever they feel like as long as the job is done.. Hence if they have to deliver within 24 hours, before 9am, abroad, they will do the job themselves as they can charge their client a fortune.. However for local deliveries, with no rush, they'd rather give the job to HDN..
HDN has been caught with loads of dodgy deliveries, ie left in bins, not delivered, signed by fake people.. They even appeared on Watchdog, and consumers forums are loaded with horror stories..
I have found similar stories to yours where a "fake" person signs for goods..
Morale of the story, you've done the right thing by paying by credit card therefore protecting your purchases..

    Froggy :D

Ps: let me make it clear that I am not complaining that all HDN are dodgy, but probably a handful of their staff are giving their company a bad name..I am sure most of their staff are very professional and doing a great job..

 I am shocked about your IPad going missing at work

But, having had bad experiences with HDN I wonder whether it ever got that far......Interesting post by Froggy - didn't know about their reputation, but have had a couple of issues with them
-I ordered books from Tesco and online it said they had tried to deliver 3 times and no one was home - and I was! After noting the 2nd failed delivery I rang Tesco, on the phone for about 20 mins (sat in my house) when I the HDN tracking page refreshed to say they had tried to deliver but no one was home in the last minute - I could quite categorically say no one knocked on door etc. Tesco lady simply said, a lot of ppl have called with similar issues - it appears HDN employees log 'no one home' when they don't have time to make all their deliveries in a day rather than admitting they couldn't do it. And Tesco didn't seem bothered!

I hope you get it soon - for you of course - but selfishly I want to hear how you like it and I have lots of questions :D mostly about 'getting around' the apple software (putting your own DVD's on it etc)!

Hope you get it replaced soon!

    Hi SStS,

I think thus far I'm very much the junior partner. I'm indebted to Froggy for kicking off the "dish the dirt on HDN" campaign. I'll be sure to alert the appropriate authorities on Monday (crime fighting rests on weekends). I'll find a couple of Google images to show off my skirt as I'm running the real risk of spoiling all the positivity of donning the national dress!

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Hi Gally,

If I have half the fun in a year's worth of events, I'll be grand. Might there have been the odd Guinness involved during said day?! I haven't caught up with Katsu's diary recently (really need to get the hang of the subscription piece) but I'm properly honoured to have had Bookworm grace my rambling with her presence.

    Cheers,

    Hi Viola,

Thanks for popping in. That's ridiculous. I'd have been after blood in the same situation (although there's a bit of me thinking I'd have bigger issues to concern myself in a period where I'm ordering myself a wedding dress)!!

I'm lucky that with long-haul holidays and mortgage freedom, I've met a few people who have inspired me. We've been round the world a couple of times now where the high likelihood would have been that not having a chance conversation with a girl who I worked with, I'd probably be contenting myself with an annual chavtastic fortnight. 2 of my friends paid their mortgages off in their early 40s and seeing and hearing of the freedoms that they now have was a massive inspiration. If I can encourage even 1 person to knock some time off their mortgage term, I'll be delighted.

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Allo allo allo Inspector Froggy,

Damn their widespread ignorance and incompetence!! Further investigations have uncovered the scary notion that HDN routinely subcontract their deliveries to other people so there is a high likelihood that the suspect list grows ever larger. I'll find out on Monday what has happened as PC World are convinced that there is no way anyone but me should have been able to accept the parcel.

I like your disclaimer down the bottom. That should keep us clear of the HDN lawyers!

    Hi babyb,

It does seem that the HDN catalogue of woes has spread nationwide! Naturally, as soon as I have it, I'll let you know what's what. I have it on very good authority that jailbreaking it and installing a couple of specific apps gives you a vast TV and Movie database to pick and choose from free of charge. I'll believe it when I see it but if it's half as good as promised, I'll be delighted. We'll get our iTunes, photos, holiday videos (I'm going to have a wee crack at a YouTube upload or two) and all the Apps which will talk to our iPhones loaded on before we start the merry download fest but, after clearing the house for it's arrival, I'm now good to go as soon as I get my hands on the thing!

    Cheers,

    Billy

  • Just popping in to see if there had been any feedback, which I see that there sort of has but none of it too promising. I too have been reading up on the dreaded Home Delivery 'service' and I am horrified to think that they might be palming their work off onto others.

Good Lord, where will it end? Some 13 year old kid that they saw on the corner street and give him a fiver to make a few deliveries on his bike? The horror stories I have been reading make me think that if I ever have anything delivered I'll be asking the company which delivery company they use and if it's these cowboys or it might even end up in their hands then I'll say 'no thanks'.
