I posted on 'The Mortgage Free Roll Of Honour' thread, and an admin person came along and 'badgered' me.

I'd post a link, but don't know how to do it on my iPad:o. But the thread is on the MFW board if you do a search

Thanks Calfuray - that will help the motivation no end. Not even halfway there yet!

Froggy, I know! I'm retiring undefeated from British gambling. The house always wins so I'll retire happy in the knowledge that I've disproven that in a tiny way.

Thanks Goldie. I don't mind it and I've still officially got four mortgages so I can't really claim to be properly mortgage free. On the basis that it doesn't make any real sense to pay off the buy to let properties (in that it would present me with a significant tax bill every year which I want no part of), I'm going to be encumbered with those forever and a day.

    Cheers,

    Evening All,

Progress of sorts. Had confirmation that the payments have been made to our debtors so we should have the last £100k owed to the business in on Monday. That will let me make the final payment from the business and begin the process of officially closing the thing down. Light at the end of the tunnel now. Have booked a meeting with the Accountant on Monday afternoon to hopefully start locking down the accounts and legally confirming the intention to liquidate the thing.

Had a relatively poor start to the day when the IFA called in sick for our meeting. We're hoping to release a bit more equity from the buy to let properties to again lessen the tax burden of a year so that will be put off until further notice. Also intended grilling him about the Domestic Financial Planning and Advice charity I want to set up but will hopefully get some progress on that tomorrow.

Seen on another diary a reference to matched betting. It's something I've always fancied so decided to wander into a couple of websites to do some research - bad move for someone who is riding a bit of a wave of good luck. Got given £5 freeplay at Coral which, after a fashion, turned into £250 which I managed to withdraw so the good luck continues. It's either a brilliant omen for the upcoming trip or I'm tempting fate by using all my luck before we hit an American casino...only time will tell. Professional Gambler is becoming a more realistic prospect by the day though.

Dusted off the Bellagio by night jigsaw and decided that my aim is to have that completed by the time we leave for the summer holiday. Only 130 pieces to go but they're all black so just needs a concerted effort to get it finished - either that or I'll take the Dougal from Father Ted approach to finishing it!

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Evening Peeps,

    Right, Professional Gambler it is!

Forget everything else, I've found my calling in life. Me and my good mates at Coral, fresh from their gift of £250 to me yesterday, decided to have another roll of the dice - this time with real money - all of a tenner. To make Moyra's world cup viewing somewhat bearable, I decided that we'd have an intra-squalor competition. She had a fiver on Brazil winning (£6.67 return) and I plumped for Brazil to win 3-1. One late "tae-bash" from Oscar later and my fiver goes to £75. For betting a fiver, I've been given a free £20 bet for one of tomorrow's games. Needless to say, my gay abandon has now extended to the Euromillions for tomorrow night. Withdrew another £50 from the Coral account and I don't think I'll be back much more as their offers are running dry. Found a betting website that shows all the freeplay and signup offers so there's at least another 20 to be having a look at over the next few weeks. That's £580 up for the week for the sum total of £20 gambled. I know it has to stop soon but I'm riding this wave until it does. Just had confirmation from the Bellagio that they have given us $100 freeplay for our first night there in July as well so things could scarcely be better on that front.

Nothing today from the two debtors so it looks like the agent will have to push things along when he's back from holiday. Today consisted of hitting the gym, doing a wee bit of grocery shopping, having a wee hack at the garden (really need to finish that tomorrow), watching non-stop (rubbish) whilst doing the Bellagio jigsaw (about 12 pieces successfully fitted). I really need to get back to doing something productive as I'm going properly stir crazy.

    Cheers,

    Billy

Definitely gambling addict  not sure Las Vegas will do you any good in curbing your enthusiasm in that particular field :rotfl:

How is the garden looking? Where is my invite to the squalor tea garden party?

My gambling is very limited - I do a few Thunderball lines on Wednesday and Saturday - I usually manage to have a few wins every month, but nothing big.

We went to Las Vegas for Mr Goldie's 50th birthday. It was shortly after 9/11' so it was fairly quiet . We stayed at Cesar's Palace, and because it was quiet, we got upgraded to a brilliant room overlooking the strip. Then, at the weekend, the whole of California drove into town to take advantage of the cheap hotel rooms and the whole town was jumping.

A fantastic experience, although we weren't exactly high rollers. But I did win $100 on the slots.

Evening Oor Frog in the South!

Probably not. We've got a gambling budget of $16,000 for the 6 weeks we're away as well so the beast will be well fed. Won again today with Mexico for a £25 profit but, even on my form, a 5-1 win for Holland at 300-1 wasn't on my pretend scorecard. I had that one at 1-1 but gave up on the betting after the Mexico game thankfully.

Garden is suitably demolished at the front. Will do the back in the next few days as those trees need a good bit of pruning back.

Main job for the next week is to continue battering into the gym and to get this god forsaken jigsaw finished.

    Cheers so,

    Billy

    Hiya Gally,

We never normally play the lottery and, until last week, I had been in a slot arcade in the UK all of about 2 times in my life. Not sure what has come over me.

Caesers is a stunning property. We tend to stay at the MGM properties but I am keen to try Caesers one of these days. Love the big check-in lobby there. Glad to hear you were a winner!

We've never been high rollers - our normal gambling budget is about $3000 but this is one year when we'll have a proper blowout. Wouldn't normally be so expensive but we're hitting Red Rock, Pahrump, Laughlin, Carson City and Reno so there'll be no escaping casino fun other than the 4 days we have set aside for Yosemite.

    Cheers,

    Billy
