Cleaning glass ceramic hob

My ceramic hob is 17 years old, wasn't really expensive and still looks brand new.
I clean it with Hob-Brite, only use pans that are recommended for ceramic hobs and NEVER EVER drag pans across the hob, I always lift them.
I sets my teeth on edge when I see TV cookery shows where cooks continually drag pans across the glass.0 -

They are the glass Vision pans which were advertised many years ago by (I think) Noel Edmonds as being ideal for use on ceramic hobs.
I've lived in my 'new' house for over 17 years and bought them probably around 20 years ago when I had a ceramic hob in my 'old' house.
They still look pretty new apart from some scratches in the largest pan caused by metal potato mashers.
A lot of people didn't get on with them but once you get used to turning them off BEFORE you would normally do with a metal pan, they're great.
Any other pans I buy (non-stick frypans and woks), I always make sure that they are suitable for use on ceramic hobs.

I had a right go at my husband a couple of weeks ago when he left a load of aluminium marks on the ceramic hob from all the 'artistic shaking' of pans cos he's seen TV chefs doing it. If the contents of the pan need stirring, stir the ruddy things, not shake the pan.
I think he got the message that if he does it again I'll shove the pan somewhere painful!Make £2025 in 2025

i got two corning vision saucepans this morning ..mint condition with lids £2 and £3 from a market stall model A 18cm and model H 20cm
lots of contradictory stuff on the web about them exploding severing arteries etc .
will have to be careful
stories about the glass not being as conductive.
and Hob manufacturers advice not to use glass pots on ceramic hobs
but for every negative story there is a positive one ..just about equals out.
so test time again .
pint of water...slightly different from the cast iron pan test .....model A put on the cold ring ..and then ring turned on full (lid not used as the cast iiron)...........7 mins to boiling.
so compares favourably with the cast iron ...and not as inefficient as some make out.

Lucky you.
Well Mark, as I said earlier, my vision pans have been in use for almost 20 years and I've never had a problem with them. However, I must admit that I'm not heavy handed and I always take care not to bang them against the taps.
I also have the Pyroflam casserole dishes in various sizes which have been in use for a similar amount of time.
They're great 'cos you can use them for browning meat on the hob then stick them in the oven.
Apparently (not tried it though) you can stick them in the freezer then take them out and put them straight into the oven. They're made from Vitro-Ceramic, a unique material so heat resistant and durable that it was used by NASA in the design of the Space Shuttle. :eek:0 -

yeah, they only lost two crews on the shuttle.;)
I've just done the test on the cast iron one again ..with ring from cold ..6 Min's and 30 secs ..
just need the vision milk pan and the frying pan now and I'm set.
thanks Polly

Another vote for Hob Brite here. Just had the kitchen done and went from gas hob to the electric ceramic hob, first attempt at boiling some new potatoes seemed to take about 24 hours but worse the bottom of the pan I used had some burned on food on the base and it transferred on to the hob.
Stardrops didn't even look at it (incidentally now available in a spray bottle in Tesco) but Hob Brite has cleaned it up beautifully. Followed a friend's instructions, actually she did it while I watched, but she covered the hob in soapy water for a short time, wiped it off then used the Hob Brite and its now sparkling again.

Help.....Ive just become the proud new owner of a ceramic hob and during my first use a pan boiled over so I quickly wiped it up with the nearest cloth (a cheap j cloth) and it melted on the surface.Ive desperately tried everything to remove this residue but consequently I think Ive left scouring marks from just rubbing hard with a dish cloth and paper towel and a bit of hob cleaner and also vinegar when this didnt work.It looks a bit scratched to me.Do you know if there are any products on the market that will polish out the scratches a bit.The surface of the ringed area feels rough to the touch.0
