Anyone know the Fowey (Cornwall) area?

Possibly buying a business with my sister and BiL in the town.

Looking at houses (on Rightmove) for me. Anyone know any good/bad areas please?

I hope this isn't your only research.

Fowey is incredibly posh and expensive. Dawn French has a house there. Any businesses are seasonal and mostly for rich tourists wandering by.

All of Fowey's posh. Across the water at Polruan's posh too, but you're then reliant on the ferry/good weather to be able to get to Fowey (or drive 30 miles round).

Fowey is a lovely place, but absolutely ram packed in the summer with tourists, also very overpriced you would get much more for your money buying outside the town.
Would be a good place to have a business in the summer (depending on what kind).

Selling twigs and vases there was probably a booming business in the past 8 years. Not now though.

If we go for one of the businesses we've been looking at, then I will look for a little cottage or bungalow just outside the town. Sis is a trained chef so wants a pub/hotel/cafe etc. I'd mainly be doing the accounts/buying and serving in the bar/restaurant.

Sis and BiL are taking one of their many reccy visits this week so it might all change by the weekend :rotfl:

That'll be because either [1] you both have jobs in the public sector [2] you've not wintered yet :)

Having stalked your posts .... nice area. I like that bit.
  • Can't help on areas for buying but just wanted to say we holiday in Polruan every year and both Polruan & Fowey are lovely. We always go in May & Sept/Oct, I have heard it is like a different place come the summer months though. Good Luck.
