Surely the lesson here is to buy from a reputable retailer who gives a free extended warranty and has good customer service such as JLP.
They price match any high street retailer anyway so it`s not as though you are paying any extra by shopping with them.0 -

If you buy a product with a 1 year guarantee and it goes wrong after 1 year what do you expect the retailer to do?
You KNOW when you buy it that it`s only guaranteed for a set period.
Quite a few companies now don`t even mention a 1 year warranty'
They say they will refund or replace up to 28 days and then go on to say your statutory rights are not affected.
After 28 days a repair is usually offered.0 -
Again this is where SOGA comes in . Up until 1 year the manufacter is responsible under their guarentee . After which the onus is then back with the retailer. We are Talking about purchases like White goods and cookers and sofas , not pound shop toys.
Under the SOGA , if the item is seen as it should last . Ie I dont expect to pay 700 quid for a cooker that breaks down asfter 16 months . I expect the retailer to sort my problem out. They sold me the faulty item in the first place. BUT under the SOGA it is up to me to prove that it is not down to misuse or wear and tear. I would then expect a reinbursement from the retailer once I have proved it was bad workmanship a faulty item etc.
Is that in plain enough english for you.

It is plain enough the way YOU seem to think the SoG act works.
When you purchase any goods you DON`T buy it from the manufacturer.
Your contract is with the retailer.
The first 6 months is when the retailer has to prove the goods were fit for purpose and then it`s YOU that has to prove the goods were faulty.
So after 12 months it`s going to cost you to get independent proof that the goods were not fit for purpose.

Note, however, that the right to reject goods and get a full refund only lasts for a relatively short time after which a buyer is deemed to have 'accepted' goods. This doesn't mean that the buyer has no legal redress against the seller, just that he/she isn't entitled to a full refund.

Retailer or manufacturer
In most cases, your rights are against the retailer – the company that sold you the product – not the manufacturer, and so you must take any claim against the retailer.
Six months...and counting
If your claim is about a problem that arises within six months of buying the product, it's up to the retailer to prove that the goods were fit for purpose – or 'as described' – when it sold them. It is also responsible for proving that the problem was caused by you (for example, because you had an accident with the item that damaged it). Beyond six months, it's up to you to prove that the problem was the retailer's.
So you may need to prove that the fault was not down to wear and tear or damage you caused, and that the product (or a component) should have lasted longer than it did. To do this you may need an expert's report, for example from an engineer or mechanic.0 -

And if you do indeed get this proof you would be legally entitled to get this cost repaid. Why is it so difficult for some of you to understand this!
