D/debit went out this morning, so I allowed myself to do a little bit of grocery shopping (while making the most of the 'extra discount day' at work - I was soooo chuffed to see the notice about that on Monday when I realised it was the same day as a D/Debit was going out ;))

As I left work I picked up 1pt of semi-skimmed milk (can now ditch the last of the 'iffy' individual cartons of UHT) - but I could have bought this anyway as I allocated some money for milk on 1st and haven't actually bought any since then. Decided to hold out until today due to the extra discount (only a couple of pennies, but better in my purse :)), and decided to pay the higher 'per pint' price and just get a 1pt one - doubt I'd get through a 2pt before it starts to turn, and certainly wouldn't get through a 4pt - which means I now have 3 bottles that size when I free up freezer space for milk.

Also picked up a jar of red cabbage (had tomato ketchup with my corned beef hash on Monday, but it's much nicer with red cabbage. I then used the other half of the tin of c/beef to make hash again tonight, but had it with red cabbage this time :)), and a Christmas Cake. Had decided not to make a cake this year as I'm on my own, but work had a 'value' one for £2.50 so I decided to treat myself.

Been back down since tea and picked up three pots of cream (all on Whoopsie, total cost much less than I'd allocated for one pot of cream on 1st), two packs of 6 scones as they were on BOGOF (the ones I made at the w/end weren't that successful - again - and I still have some clotted cream to use up), a pack of Whoopsied cream meringues (and very nice they were too blush.gif), a Whoopsied mousse dessert, a Whoopsied bag of 4 honey & sunflower rolls (breakfast sorted for the next couple of days), a Whoopsied pack of 4 malted sandwich baguettes, a bag of Qu0rn mince (on offer), a bag of Qu0rn pieces, and three packs of BM turkey burgers (on B1G2F so I couldn't resist, especially as I've not had them in years - I love these in a bread roll with mayo and shredded lettuce)

And since coming home I've been onto the Qu0rn website and ordered their cookbook for £2.99 - I've read loads of good comments about it, so decided to 'splurge' and order my own copy ;) This is actually my first non-food purchase so far this month, so I'm pretty impressed with myself as I normally need something.....

Need to figure what I've already bought/spent from my pre-allocated funds (I know I still have the full £5 I pre-allocated for 'allowable' Whoopsies), and figure if I need to add more to it for anything else I may need that can't be put on a list for picking up on a D/Debit day. I think my next D/Debit is due out on Friday, so shouldn't need anything else before then. The one after that is due out on Monday, so I've plenty of chance in the next few days to do a proper rummage and see if there's anything else I need to add to my pre-allocated 'list' for between then (15th) and the following D/Debit (probably as late as 26th!!)

I am, however, putting £30 to one side for petrol (just in case the D/Debit doesn't go out on Friday, as I need fuel to get to/home from my race on Sunday). And I'm also putting £5 to one side for Sunday, as I suspect there will be fund-raising things going on at the race, given it's a Children in Need event.

Keiss, I have just touched flour and try to make something into the kitchen tonight (bechamel sauce). Now I have not done or attempted something like this for years! this is this board influence; had my laptop on the sideboard for following the recipe. Start slowly :)

NSD #5 today! Did the trick of scouting the freezer and came up with a meal

    Great evening to all
Well done on being creative in the kitchen Karom :T. I made bechamel sauce for the first time in ages a few months ago. I was making pasta and cheese sauce, but didn't have that much cheese, so decided to have a go at making a bechamel sauce and then adding what cheese we had...a great success!!! We now do it everytime...I once forgot, my boys really noticed...and complained!! ;).
Evening!! Well today wasn't a NSD! Realised I needed to go to Mr T on the way home so I got my lottery, some food hopefully enought til the weekend and I put aside my £10 out ready for tomorrow's hair cut!! So hopefully can tot up a few more this week!!!

ETA: I've got a tax rebate :D Wasn't expecting it!! Don't know how sensible to be with it?! I could buy some xmas presents and treat myself to a new DVD player (mines broken) OR be super sensible and pay it off my cards?!
Congratulations on the rebate DP :T!! I did this when I got mine a few months ago...paid of a chunk of the c-c debt as well as helping out DS1 (Uni) and DS2 (starting college - all that sports kit )....expensive times!! Though I have bought quite a bit of crafting stuff I might not otherwise have bought...and we have got two new mattresses (DH & me, and DS2)...looks like this month, it will have run out...took 6 months to spend it, much better than if I had had this money a few years ago...thanks MSE!!!:T:T

Well, chutney is decanted into jars - slight 'episode' where I dropped some on my finger and nearly gave myself third degree burns  It all looks like the pictures on the internet. Had to cook it in two pots as there was so much.

Jury is out about the taste of it, there was a little spare so I have put that in my sarnie for tomorrow. Tasted a bit but it's still a but warm and acidic - plus the smell of vinegar through the house doesn't help. ...... Please keep your fingers crossed for me, this is my first time making jam and chutney and I'm beginning to think perhaps it wasn't such a good idea to use people's xmas presents as guinea pigs :(
As has been said before....chutney takes time to develop and become milder...a few weeks will work wonders, it'll be even better after a few months :)!

I do love making things, be it crafting or cooking/baking. It's fun and sooo rewarding (and MSE...mostly!!)

Well my car hasn't gone into the garage today, but it was still a spendy day as I planned lots of other shopping to coincide with the car enpense. Otherwise, I would have left my shopping for another day .

The car was supposed to be being picked up from the house today and taken to the garage to be assessed and then (hopefully) mended. So I took DH into work (DS2 home all day), then did a bit of shopping @ Waitrose, before heading to the docs for my Annual Review. Friend's took me out for (an early) Birthday Lunch (yummm!) Back home before heading into town to do more shopping before picking up DH.

Now the car is definitely being picked up tomorrow. I'm staying at home, as we may not have to pay for the work done on the car until later...so here's hoping we can make tomorrow an NSD!!!

Got the paint for DS2's room today, so I need to get my finger out and wash down the walls and get the first coat on tomorrow. Using the same colour of paint, so really just sprucing it all up. DS2 has muttered about us designing some Maori-style art to paint on the walls...coulds be fun, but may not get that done until after Xmas...too many other things to do in the mean-time!!

Starting to freeze here in the conservatory....11 degrees...with the heating on !.. Heading off into the sitting room and a cozy fleece to get some knitting done. Made two more beanies yesterday, still a few more to do, but nearly there! :) Really have to gfet going with my X-stitch again, but the sinusitis is still playing up so wearing glasses is still painful ...really bad having to wear sunglasses today when driving
    :(.

Will pop on sometime tomorrow, though will be busy for most of the day!
