My Oma (Grandmother) ALWAYS Roasted her Rabbit... I remember her basting it all the time, and it took hours to cook! But it was just amazing!!
Frugal, you HAVE to try Rabbit, it's a lovely cheap, free range organic meat... which tastes lovely!!!
Personally I think it looks like a raw Rabbit before cooking and a cooked rabbit after cooking!
I love soups and casseroles, but I just LOVE my oma's Roasted Rabbit....

Use a very liquid stock, onions, bay, allspice, cinnamon, red wine, lemon juice, garlic, tinned tomato and tom puree and cook at a very low heat... I'd also joint it rather than risk someone making the mental connection (other than DD, as she has already worked out what but is what and has decided she doesn't care, as a wild bunny has a great life stopped in an instant, whereas a captive one has a pretty boring life and a battery chicken has a miserable existence with a more miserable end).

When I see them in the butcher's I always think they look like a skinned cat. Not that I've ever seen a skinned cat but I expect it would look similar to a skinned rabbit. I still eat them though. Rabbits, that is.0 -

When I was a lot younger and rabbits were quite commonly seen hanging in shops, they had the heads left on for that very reason.
Have not seen rabbits for sale in this area for years.

Hugh F-W did some lovely recipes when he made rabbit. Back in season 2 of river cottage (listed under season 3 episode 2 on 4od). Maybe you could get some nice ideas off that.0

Thank you for all the ideas! I think I am going to try roasting for a VERY long time and a really LOW heat, and baste it A LOT! I think i'll try JoJo's recipe!

I've managed to pick up rabbit at my local butchers and really fancy making a pie. If anyone has any super tasting tricks as how to make a rabbit pie I would be really greatful
I've a recipe in mind but just incase you all know something I don't know
I'm really looking forward to it as I haven't tasted rabbit before. It was reasonably cheap too which I can't quite believe.0 -
We don't make pie out of ours, so I can't help you I'm afraid, but I hope you enjoy it! I don't really enjoy it casseroled, so hubby coats ours in a "southern fried" coating and deep fry it - like rabbit nuggets - yummmmmm!!!!!!!
We also like pigeon and we loooovvvvveeeee squirrelThough I jokingly refer to its taste as "rat with a hint of praline" it's actually ruddy lovely!!!!
