Don't forget that some parts are similar if not the same to those on the Freelander with the same engine, and as has been mentioned the earlier ones where marginally better built.

The heater and fascia electronics are for example from a 3 series with the Rover buttons on top, also it is a pain in the **** to change a headlight buld on a facelift model.

I would have an MG model or an earlier one, the first few years of production on the original production line where the best.

I am sure production was move after the first few years, but it was years ago that i was told this by a Rover enthusiast so I may be wrong on this, but this is how I remember it.

The first ones also had 3 Series front seats with Rover cushions and trim on them apparently.

Though I would only go for a diesel, probably the more powerful model, I think it had about 120-130 bhp, whilst the less powerful one had 116bhp or therabouts.

    Youd get a 54 plate Vectra/Mondeo for £2000 too.
You'd get an extremely ropey one! You'd get a better quality Rover 75 simply because people don't want them anymore!

I thought that, and to be honest and not being funny I've sat inside a mondeo and a vectra and they're nothing like a rover 75 at all. The interiors aren't even vaguely comparable on any level, I was wanting for once in my life to own a car that looks 'special', the Rover 75 does and that's not even an opinion it's a fact.
  • I'd have the MG Zwhatever it is that is the V8 Mustang powered one.Proven old school tech engine and box.
The MG sporty estate is nice as well.
On the 75 as a whole, good cars but purposely made (by BMW) not 'attractive' enough as to compete with BMW's own range.

Look how the range changed when BMW sold Rover ......not everyones taste, but distinctive all the same.

I used to think they looked like Jags.

Don't get me wrong, I would much prefer something more expensive, but just the fact that they can be got with reletively low mileages at an affordable cost is a good thing, not to mention that elderly people swear by them and seem to own alot of them, lol. I'd be careful of early diesel models as well as anything with K-series lum in it! Mechanically the diesels were fine, but just short on torque I believe. The K-series petrol motor suffered premature head gasket issues as well as dodgy water pumps! I believe Rover modified these in their last days though.

If money was no object for me it would be the V8 with the Ford engine and RWD!

XPart are the official supplier of Rover (and MG) parts. They are based in Desford, near Leicester and are still in business, so I am sure you will be able to get parts for Rovers going forward. Don't forget there a lot of these cars on the road, so parts will still be needed.

    Good luck!
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

Which Rover 75 has a peugeot 1.9 diesel engine in it?

I drove a 75 Diesel on a T plate on a 24 hour testdrive when they first came out and that had a BMW lump in it.

The early 200 and 400 had the1.9 pug lump in the 218 non turbo and the 1.8 turbo lump in the 218 turbo diesel.

From memory the later bubble shaped cars had the 2.0 litre lump that was closely related to the perkins lump in the Montego and Maestro. And was also fitted to the Rover 600 and Honda Accord, think it was an"O"Series engine or something like that.

The Rover 800 diesel had a VM engine from memory.

You can, however, get a reasonable Mondeo for £2000, I paid less than £2500 for my 05 130bhp Mondeo hatch, two years ago. but it had alomst 80k on the clock so was well below book price, still on the original shocks, springs, clutch, DMF, injectors etc. Now with an awful lot more miles on it now.

Though I missed out on a MG estate at the same sale, on a 54plate as it made £2600, and it had higher miles and a stone chipped front bumper, but looked good in black with the 17" alloys, I sometimes wish I had bought it.

Even now at Auction a diesel 75 or MG will make respectable money compared to the rather flawed petrol models, though a recent kit engineered by former Rover engineers with financial backing from the owners in China, has resulted in a new head gasket and a new oil rail at the bottom of the engine, which is supposed to sort the head gasket problems once and for all, even better than the modifcations made for use in the Freelander.

i would probab;y have a petrol 75, but would only use it until the HG went then I wouold break it for spares, sort of executive class banger motoring, it is still one of the best riding cars ever made.

also in the early models they used borg and beck clutches who went into financial trouble they were bought out by first line and i can remember from my works at a motor factor we had problems getting them. but i'm sure now that their in production firmly.

the early 1999 cdt had a 1950cc engine wich in some cases got registered as a 1.9 some argue that they were the last of the pug engines, but yes i can and will be corrected the pug engine was 1895 cc or there abouts.
