    i tranfered my father's phone number ,which was on contracted to him,other 6 years ago to mine (different network)so we would not lose the number,and ive used it ever since ,
    thier was no queston asked then and was pain to do it back then,
    i think it cost money back then to do it ?

    I think it used to cost money, but Ofcom stepped in so all networks have to allow you to take your number with you when disconnecting (providing your in terms of the contract of course) and I'm pretty sure they're not allowed to charge you for porting your number in, none of them do anyway as the mobile network's pretty much saturated and the only way to get new customers is to get them from other networks and charging customers to port their numbers in would be counter productive!
  • New network just needs;
    1.Pac code
    2.Mobile Number
    3.Network name - They already know what your old network is from the pac code.

    No 30 notice is required as the port will cease usage from the old network. Port usually takes working 2 days.

    so, if the contract is due to end on 2nd january I can ask for the PAC any time from 3rd December and that presumably counts as giving notice?

    Yes, he's 22! His last 2 contracts were in my name as I was paying for them as presents. He's on his own this time!

    They will give you a PAC code and you must use it within 30 days otherwise you will need to contact them for a new PAC code as they have 30 days expiry. If you don`t use it then contract continues on.

    Sometimes, even though you use the PAC code straight away, they sometimes charge you for the full remaining month. Check with operator when requesting your code.

    PAC code request does not give notice if you decide not to use the PAC code. If you do use it then no notice is required.

    Hope that helps :T
  • Do they really ask who this PAC belongs to by name? Never. They take the PAC and thats it.

    you are right, they dont ask (or care), I transferred a line in my name to a contract in my son's name (different networks with PAC).

    No problem at all, as has been said already, they only wanted PAC, number and network.

    Nope, all they should need to ask for is the PAC code and your mobile number, the PAC code will tell them what network the number's coming from and gives them permission to take ownership of the old number.
