OS Daily Sunday 31 October 2010

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 31 October 2010. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all

Well, as ever, littlies don't get the concept of an extra hour in bed! :D

Just getting light, no rain.

Today's jobs include:
Ironing, cause we've nothing to wear!
Severe tidying, cause DH has lost his bankcard somewhere in the house!
Making Christmas cards
Shopping with grown-up DD, she's buying outfit for her baby sis for a family wedding in December

Baby now a bit pongy & I need another cuppa! Have a good Sunday morning & hope to pop back later. Hugs & kisses etc as you need 'em!

Morning all - just back from a few days hol with the boys. They were quite happy - but I think I need another holiday to get over it all. Had to stop off at MILs on the way back as she's been taken into the hospice - the Big C has taken another turn - so she's in a lot of pain - hugs going her way.

I got home and found havoc - should have known! So have already tidied the kitchen, put the DW on and got all the foodie bits that I plundered MILs freezer for defrosting gently. Am planning on making lots of single meals to take back for her next weekend when we go to make her a downstairs bedroom. Somehow this week I also have to find time to go to work - yikes! Thank goodness for the extra hour today - although the boys didn't get the hang of it - like Cheapskates littlies! Have taken cash out of the bank and will try to live on this alone in November. Took out £100 - immediately spend £20 on a takeaway (hangs head in shame!) so have £80 plus a full freezer and cupboards to live from. Will actually do very well I think.

Right got to dash, have house to clean and loads of cooking to do! Thank goodness I got all the washing done at MILs. hugs to those in need xxxx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    morning
been up since silly o clock with DS, the clocks changing thing is a nightmare:o.....he will spend the next few days saying "it says 8 o clock but really it is 9" etc plus he has a clock collection and we always forget one of them.
We used to do it all without mentioning it but now he hears it on news and sees it in papers etc.
Have been MIA all week as busy with DS off school. I have also had a foul head cold thing which is only just starting to go.....have been in bed at 8 or 9 each night.
Getting things sorted for wedding and Xmas. Made another batch of chilli jelly for presents. Got fairy lights for venue to put up and Yankee candle Xmas candles for there. DS has been for a visit so he knows what is happening. Got wedding rings and now have to sort sweets out for candy buffet.
Have been trying to get a santa list together for DS. Have bought him a couple of things like the toilets of the world calendar:p and stocking fillers. He was getting very upset as we looked through argos and toys r us etc online and there is just nothing at all he is bothered about:o.
Then he saw Sylvanian families on TV advert and wanted to look at them on net. He wants the cat family and one of the houses and bathrooms etc. Bless him it is because that is everyday life stuff and he knows what to do. He hasnt the imagination to play with Dr who/ star wars etc. Xmas is a bit of an ordeal for him and it has to be very low key which makes it a bit odd for us. We cant have anyone here or go to anywhere else for Xmas as we cant expect others to keep it low key so it is always just the 3 of us. Really thats the way I like it,would hate everyone landing on us.
I am going to make a shepherds pie for tea as we are going to Fright Night later.
    http://www.sheffieldevents.com/sheffield_fright_night.php
We get there as soon as it starts at 3 30 as it gets very busy after teatime with rowdy teens and DS cant cope( neither can I). He loves the rides and is dressing up as Pumpkin head grim reaper. It is a regular part of his year which he looks forward to. It will be good to just chuck the shepherds pie in the oven when we get back at 5ish.
i have the hamster to clean out later (OH wont do her since she bit him on the nose:rotfl:) and OH has the fish to clean.
I am going to get the rest of xmas presents sorted online today and get it all in some sort of order so I know where I am up to......need to give most of them to people at the wedding as we wont see them after that.
well best get moving, hugs to all who are feeling low or ill at the mo.
    xx

    Hi everyone

Nice having the extra hour in bed but I woke up early anyway and couldn't get back to sleep - bet I don't get any more done today despite a longer time awake!

We spent most the day yesterday with friends; we went out for a mooch around the shops - very expensive shops in a nearby 'posh' city, so only window shopping really. We stopped for coffee and it was still warm enough to sit outside; in fact, it was warmer than it's been for a while. Raining today, though.

Anyway, not much to report apart from roast chicken for dinner tonight.

Hope you all have a good Halloween!

Morning all, a bit damp and grey looking this morning .Eldest DD is coming to visit this morning to tell me all about her holiday. got my hair trimmed yesterday although youngest Dd says it looks like I have been scalped, but it does grow very quickly so by Christmas it should be looking just right.
This afternoon I am off to see the tribe and we are making skeleton biscuits and cob-webby decorated fairy cakes -from the recipe in Asda's free October booklet so that will keep the little boys amused. DD has already carved her pumpkin yesterday to give it time to dry out.
I thought I would have a lay in this morning but still woke up at my usual time around 6.30 whic is only 5.30.IYSWIM blessed hour, I will feel tired by tonight, but might catch 40 winks before I go to Dds this afternoon.
I hope everyone has a good day,I can't believe how quick this year has flown by.It definitely goes quicker as you grow older.
    have a nice Sunday everyone
    Cheers JackieO

  • Morning All,

Hugs for ESMF's MIL, Redroby and dad, and anyone else in need.

I still woke up at stupid o'clock even thought the clocks went back, and the boys were up at seven (new time) too. Lots to do today, Dsis starts her new job, so I have nephew from 10-6 DS2 should be going to a birthday party but he was chasing dad round the house last night and fell and has twisted his ankle!! Its a football party, and he is gutted he can't go, but its his decision, I told him to go and sit at the sides but he's not having any of it. DS1 has a Hallowe'en party this evening, and I need to get ready for the Guisers.

I need to do the supermarket shop today, too. I have made it to the end of the month with a GC spend of £162, over the moon about that, although there have been a few strange meals this week, and more pasta consumed than usual. :D

Ear is still sore, thanks for asking yesterday ladies, but not agonising like it was so the anti-b's must have kicked in properly now :)

Have a great spooky Hallowe'en, Hope LameWolf is having a good celebration (won't try and spell it:o)
Hugs spoons and hi fives all round.

  • Morning all,

Was awake at the decadent time of 06:30 old time, and lay in bed reading until 08:00 new time. Just been out with the dog (a short walk after her operation on her paw), and am now contemplating cleaning and tidying the whole house.

OH texted me this morning at 3am to tell me he'd just come back in from taking the recruits out on a night march, so haven't had a good night's sleep really.

It's overcast here and damp, but at least it's not raining (yet :p).

Will be going to the local shops in a while as I've decided to get two pumpkins for tonight - one for us and one for my parents. I should have got them yesterday, but I wasn't bothered - I am now though?

Apart from that will probably make some Halloween gingerbread for when the OH returns home from the mountains, and will also have to crack on with revision for my interview next Friday - I will not have a repeat of my last interview!

Mum's making dinner - roast sirloin of beef with bernaise sauce and baked new potates, so it's a free tea! :j

Hugs to all that need them, and hope you all have a good day :)

    Morning All

Foggy here after a lovely day yesterday when the washing dried on the line. Made a great change from the torrential rain we had Thursday and Friday. Not too good with the extra hour thing so just got up anyway, sure I will find something to do! Have already put the WM and DW on and sorted some books in my bedroom. Going to put away the last of the summer t shirts in a bit.

DS1 & GF had been here Friday night and went yesterday evening (they both work in a bar for extra cash) to go to work. DS2 turned up yesterday afternoon and will be packing up the car as he now has a flat in Edinburgh. I'm glad as he has been sleeping on other folks' settees and will outstay his welcome. Managed to find him a quilt, pillows, quilt covers and sheets from the big pile of bedding so that has saved a small fortune.

Right, off to do some housework, didn't do much yesterday as I had gone out on Friday night and had a jolly good time! (Why is it that everytime I go out with the girls I end up dancing somewhere!).

Have a good time everyone, thinking of those not having such a good time. Take care. XX

    Morning All

Up with the larks this morning DS and DH have had their brekkie and are out in the garden.
Looks like we had rain last night because everything is soaking wet - Not good when they are trying to build a shed because the wood is twice the weight.

We had a howling good time last night. DD and her BF came too and he won best costume :D he went as a voodo man.
They had to leave at 10pm to go to another party but came home early because it wasn't as good as the one we were at and that was full of oldies ;) We know how to have a good time even us crooked ones :rotfl:

Can't do much Osness today because I have a lot of stuff from the shed in the house (expensive tools etc)

Dinner today is beef and all the trimmings with an apple and sultana sponge and custard for dessert. I hope to have enough beef left for tomorrow to make a casserole.

csarina........ I hope OH is still improving, but most of all look after yourself it is hard work running up and down to hospitals.

JackieG............glad to hear that you are on the mend

NPM......Can't believe that your wedding is only 5 weeks away.

Oh well I must get on.
    Have good days all x
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
