internet explorer, tools, internet options, connections, never dial a connection
Excellent. That seems to have stopped that problem.
I cant download anything off the netbook obviously but could download to this and transfer on a memory stick I guess.
I've just gone into my programs to see if theres something there that could be trying to connect. In ordering it from installed on I've got windows live essentials 2011 - I dont even know what that is?!
Cmpatablitiy pack for office 2007 - again dont know where thats come from and that came in on the 14th.
And then its just adobe, skype, tweetdeck other than microsoft silverlight which again I dont know what that is!?0 -
To control how the system applies updates, select Windows Update from the control panel then the Change settings option. The dropdown under Important updates lets you choose how they are applied. If you select the option to let you choose which updates are installed, you can prevent the one in question from coming back. Although if you don't already have IE8, if you update to that first (even if you don't plan to use it), the update may apply OK. I only had a problem where it applied itself to a machine with XP and IE7 installed, although it was using Firefox.
I've just done that and its now showing 5 important and 1 optional. One being the IE8 one!0 -

Good you're back in the land of the living again. Skype usually connects if it's set to auto start and log you in. Don't know about Norton, but maybe that's looking for updates. Still worth installing Malwarebytes, updating it (now you've got connectivity!) and running a full scan - especially if Norton is currently disabled.

I'd hang fire on the IE8 one until you've sorted everything out. You can always install it later by itself.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Should do so long as you select Save file rather than Run when you download. Don't know how recent the virus database will be, but it's worth a try.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. See what the scan finds, but I'd wait on any updates until that's done then leave the IE8 one out for the time being.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Scan has come back 100% clean as a whistle?! Just downloading the updates minus the IE8 and then will restart again and see if its had any effect.0
