Thanks Buffy:A you are right about it being crap.:( My credit rating is already shot to pieces as I have bounced a few things in the last few months and have been turned down for a loan and a card this month so no joy there. This month lots of things are going to start bouncing.

I am just so worried about my job, I am really quite lonely at times and I really do like my job and the people I work with are lovely and I just couldn't bear to lose that. But I think I might have to.

We are not there yet hon, hang on

Just take a breath and work out what is coming out when, what you can pay and what you cant.I know it is scary, but it is the not knowing that is scary, knowledge is power

  • Thanks to both of you:A I have just added up everything and it is not good. :( I need to make a plan for this month, I do not know how much money I will have coming in as I am waiting to hear if I will get the overtime I applied for. The major payments come out towards the end of the month so I may be okay with them until the same scenario happens next month. the things which will bounce are the smaller things but I still don't want that to happen. I am determined to do everything I can to keep this away from my work.

I feel a lot calmer for writing it all down and all the helpful replies. I need to get a plan of action together which may involve calling people. :( There is just no one to talk to. I am sick of all this struggling to get by. There just seems no end to it. I can;t do any of the things I want to do. It is all my own stupid fault. I have spent and spent on rubbish and I have nothing to show for it and I might end up losing my job or having debt collectors turning up at the house.
  • Hi Rose Rose,

Forgive me for jumping in, I'm normally found on the grocery challenge board but just wondered whether you could cancel your dd's and so's. I realise that you need a certain number of days but if you can cancel some it will save on bank charges. Perhaps that will then give you a little bit of time to take some of the fantastic advice from the more experienced posters?

Many hugs, I've just looked at the snowballing thing for credit cards and it's also very helpful - don't know if that will help.
  • Hi sharron, most welcome to join in.:) Thanks for your advice, I will have to think through my options. Which are quite limited as far as I can see. :( I know there must be a way out of all this somehow. Am just so sick of it all. I think I will try to contact one of the debt charities just to see what they say and to get another viewpoint on all this. At the moment I am thinking I will have to change jobs. I don't want to do that but I really can't cope anymore.
  • I did have a sneaky idea.................could you cancel your DDs and pay by cheque, thus with the time it takes cheques to clear might buy some time...? but I am not sure about charges.

Are you sure there is nothing to sell?

    xx

I would definitely talk to the debt charities first, I've felt totally overloaded with cc debt (higher than my mortgage!) that my dh ran up without me knowing about it but looking today at the snowball calculator has opened my mind up to the fact that we can have a debt free life even though it will take a while. I have been in financial crises many times over the years and the one thing that shines through is that no matter how hard or hopeless it seems at the time we always get through it somehow....you will too. Perhaps it's a good thing that it's the weekend because you can take a couple of days now to gather information and think things through. The only thing I would add is that surely if you go to HR they have to treat whatever you tell them annonymously? If you're thinking a new job is the only way then you've nothing to lose by talking to them and who knows they may be more sympathetic than you might think - you can't be the only person working at a bank who got into financial difficulty! Hang in there and hopefully by next week you'll feel there is a way forward. xx

roserose, please don't worry about debt collectors turning up at the house, we can provide you with letters to send your creditors to prevent that. Bailiffs will only turn up IF they have a court order AND if you haven't been keeping to a repayment plan that was ordered by the court. Debt collectors have absolutely no rights to come to your home and take stuff or to hassle you so forget about that for the time being.

Do make sure that your priority debts are paid, i.e. council tax, rent, utilities etc. Can you call your creditors and ask that the payment dates are changed so that you don't incur bank charges on your account? I've done this a few times when I have changed jobs, they are usually fine about it if you are not behind with your payments.

You really need to speak to someone about your situation, with the best will in the world, we can't help you much without more information. Can you post up a SOA for us to have a look at? As RAS said earlier, you should think about contacting your employers HR department, they are bound to have some kind of help or support system in place, bank employees aren't immune to money problems and you may be surprised as to how helpful they can be. And you should seriously consider contacting one of the debt charities, many of us have done so and can now sleep a little better at night.

I hope you find some support here, you have come to the right place, please don't despair. You have a good job, nice colleagues and we are all rooting for you. You will be able to find a solution to this, I promise, lots of us can relate to how you're feeling tonight. Take care, will be keeping an eye on your thread so keep us posted and we will help if we can. :)

Please consider all the good advice people have given here - including Barbiedolls advice about speaking to HR at your work - they will have something in place to help.
  • Could you post an SOA?

Lets see what the situation is, look at the options and work out the best way forward.

There are a lot of brains on this site that you can pick and a lot of folk who have been in deep and come out the other side.

Yes you are going through a storm at the moment and lots of turbulence. However the blue skies will return.

    Best,

I worked for a very large bank between 2001/2003. Unfortunately, like you, i had to bank with them, as part of the conditions of employment. I ran up debts due to easy loans CC's etc with the bank i worked for.

All i can say, is in my situation, the bank were remarkably understanding. Obviously, i couldnt let the account get out of control, but i did manage to get myself sorted out with help from the bank. You need to speak to them, they will have systems in place to deal with this kind of thing. You dont really think for all the 10's of thousands of people who work for banks at every level, you are the only one in this situation, trust me, your not. Many are there and have been there before.

Might be hard to swallow at the moment, but I now look at things like this, What may seem like the end of the world today, you will laugh about tomorrow. It may seem a bad situation, but things will turn around and get better.
