I am now at rock bottom.

Hi all, am posting under another id as do not want this to be connected with my real one. There are so many things I need to put down, as much for myself so I can get it straight in my head. I don't even know where to start. I am in so much trouble. I don't know what to do next.
I work full time for a large bank and have been there for a year. This does not even cover my debts anymore so I am doing overtime to make ends meet but it is not always enough as it depends on whether there is enough overtime to do. I have another account with Abbey that I use for day to day things and I put all my salary in there so I do not bounce anything on my account with my employer as I need to keep my account running properly there.
I have no money in my account and things are going to start bouncing on Monday, lots of things. What I am worried about is whether this will affect my job. I cannot speak to my employer about this. I know that if I go bankrupt I will lose my job. I am single and 35 with no children. I have no one to talk to about this. My guaranteed income is not enough to cover my outgoings. I can just about manage as long I can do enough overtime.
I really need help from someone who works in a bank or knows about these things. If I am not keeping up with payments which is obviously going to affect my other account will my employers find out about this? What will happen to me?
I have done a lot of stupid things to get myself in this situation. I have finally hit rock bottom. There is no more robbing Peter to pay Paul because there is no money anywhere. I get paid in the middle of the month so everything due out before then will bounce. I have a little money set aside for food. I am up to my limit on all my credit cards. I have 3 loans (all taken out when I had a better income). I can probably meet the payments at the end of the month but they are due before that. Then it will all start again. I cannot borrow anymore due to my credit rating, I have been turned down for a credit card and a loan this month. I do not know how to get myself straight and I do not want to lose my job or for anyone to know about this.
I have nothing left. There is no money. I do not know what to do. I bounced some payments last month and started getting phonecalls but I managed to pay them, but I am afraid it will all start again. Can anyone tell me how long it takes before they contact collection agencies? I share a house with my landlord so I cannot have anyone turning up at the house. I do not know what to do. I am absolutely at rock bottom here.
I am not even sure any of this rambling makes sense. I just want it all to stop.

Didn't want to read and run. :grouphug:
I don't have anything constructive to say but I know there will be some wiser people along shortly who will be able to help.
At least you've taken the first step to getting in control, so well done.0 -

Clearly you cannot go bankrupt working in a bank, however is there any way you can agree to reduced payments with your creditors. They can only say no.0 -
Don't panic Rose, please just contact payplan 0800 280 2816 and they will help you sort out everything for free, it really is this simple. Good luck.0

Tanks for your reply Jim. I really do wish it was that simple but I think you have to close any bank accounts with an overdraft facility and I cannot do that as it is part of my contract that I keep my account with my empoyers open. Do you know if you do have to close your accounts? If not then I can certainly look at that but I cannot risk losing my job on top of everything else.0 -
Another one that didn't want to read and run even though I have no advice.
Virtual hugs being sent your way, I really do hope that you get this sorted, I'm sure you will.I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.0 -

If you work for a bank, you need to tell them you are in trouble. Speak first to your union rep and get them to approach HR anonamously.
Believe me, last year three people on the BR forum were supported by their bank employers going BR, one even did it at the advice of their in-house debt advisor. The only bank employee who went BR and lost their job was the one who did not tell their employer and let them find out when the OR contacted them.
It may not be necessary for you to go BR but you will be referred to an advisor and they will help you sort it out. Others have dealt with one of the debt charities like CCCS, CAP etc who have kept their in-house debt out of the equation because there was a risk they would lose their job.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Thank you so much for your reply, it has made me feel better. I don't have any debt with my employer and I move the money out as soon as I am paid so there is nothing to see on my account there. I simple cannot tell anyone at work, I am too embarrassed and I would rather try to sort it out without involving them if that is at all possible.
I would contact one of the debt charities if I knew there was a way to keep my account with my employers open and they were not informed of anything. I absolutely could not bear them to know. I love my job but would rather leave than have that happen, I could go back to the job I had previously which is not with a bank and pays more or less the same so I am not worried in that respect as I know I have a job to go to but I want to stay where I am. But I would rather leave than face up to people knowing. My job is the only thing keeping me sane at the moment.
I know I am raambling as everything is a bit muddled at the moment. I have been alone with this for so long. I do not know which way to turn. I have absolutely no one to talk to about this. I have been so stupid.0 -
Roserose - my heart goes out to you.
You know what? Try not to be so hard on yourself. I'd bet that there are loads of people reading your post who are thinking "there but for the grace of God go I".
Would it be worth a visit to your GP? You sound very low.
Citizens Advice Bureau - my sister in law works for them and they deal with an unbelievable number of debt problems so they're BRILLIANT.
You're probably got loads of skills, knowledge and abilities that you could apply to this situation. How about making a list of them?
I'm sure the wise people on here will advise and guide you.

Things probably wont turn out as bad as you think, they certainly didnt for me with 60k of debt. I work for an insurance company and didnt have to go bankrupt.
1. Post your Statement of Affairs here for people to comment on - http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
2. Talk to one of the debt charities, this does not commit you to anything, I went with CCCS and they have been fine. You can fill in their debt remedy online and they will advise you on what to do - http://www.cccs.co.uk/InfoCentre/EnglandandWales/Debtsolutions/Debtmanagementplan.aspx

Thanks sonny, that was a really kind post. There are so many things running round in my head at the moment. I think I may have to face up to the fact that I am going to have to leave my job and go back to my old one. I possibly should go to my GP but it's one of a thousand things I need to do.
