LOL I am waiting for my friend to tell us the damage. I did go to a Skoda dealer yesterday but he was asking £70 for trade (not sure on Vat) then theres paint to get.

I thought about filler I have used it before with varying degrees. I just think on this occasion damage is to wide, and it splits into several angles including the wheel arch it would be hard to hide it, I would probably use about £30 of filler. Luckily the wing isnt welded on but bolted so it should be easy to fix.

I am hoping on moving shortly so hopefully less likely to happen again. I park it on a quite street now until then.

It just annoys me so much that so low life did this and particularly as i was out helping others, I just lost some faith in human nature, hopefullys its temporary.

My car is or was in good nick, I look after my car, as I said regularly serviced, clean etc. I no car isnt worth much on the books but to me its worth a lot to replace, I just dont like the large dint in it and if I dont get it done now I have trouble affording it once we change house.

    Talk about an over-reaction!

It is just a dent, big deal. My car (or shall I say last car), was vandilised serveral times through the year of me owning it.

Like your dent, these were also only minor things (dents, mirror smashed off etc).

Life went on, the car still got me from a to b. You are saying you need your car to do your shopping, well a dent is sure as hell not gunna stop that car from getting you to the shops.

It is a simple case of cosmetic damage, an annoyance - yes.

Whilst I appreciate your daughter is disabled, the car will still be functional as it was before this dent.

So just try to calm down a bit, looks like you could do with it!

This isn't really in the spirit of MSE is it? The OP has every right to be upset that her car has been bashed into by someone without the decency to own up to it. It is cosmetic damage, but it is an inconvenience, a stress she could do without and a financial hit, which no one needs at this (or any) time of year.

If you buy something and then take care of it, it is awful when someone disrespects that by damaging your property. No one needs that. If society didn't have this 'so what it happens' attitude to crime then maybe something would be done about these eejits who drive without consideration for others, or more likely than not, without insurance.

My sympathy Poppycat, my DD bought a new car and on day 3 some lowlife threw a rock at it whilst she was driving, it had to go in for major body repairs. The only consolation was the rock could have gone through the windscreen and injured her or her passenger. Police have tried to find the culprit but have drawn a blank so she is out of pocket.

It isnt a expensive car, in fact its only worth a few hundred, but its our car, I look after it, I keep it well serviced, I drive carefully and obey the laws of the road, how dare this person just hit my car and then think nothing? They no they hit it isnt a big enough dint.

    Hi Poppy

Firstly sorry to read of your misfortune. I can totaly understand your upset and heartache over the matter. A similar thing happened to my car, which I class as a hobby - I work hard to maintain and upkeep, only to have to spend over £500 to get it repaird because of some a$$hole. Why should we have to foot teh bill for others stupidity and/or cruel intentions?

Anyway, what's done is done and now we have to look at the options:

    1. Get it repaired
    2. leave it alone.

Dependant upon the quality of workmanship and parts, fixing it will vary in price (obviously) but why don't you look on places like salvage yards, there are many online with cars in for breaking - you might even strike it lucky and get a similar colour. You can find out the paint code of your car by looking on a data sticker (I know the chances of gettin an exact match are slim)

What manufacturer/model is it? This could help us. I have seen many bargains go on ebay for spares and repairs. Due to the nature of the damage, does it have to be repaired instantly? I'm guessing you could probably hunt for the cheapest parts, and then get a decent body shop to spray and fit the wing - so you may have time on your side? :)

If you disclose a few more details we might be able to help point you in teh right direction(s).

Also have you thought about some car detailers that fix the likes of little dents and can pull them out of the body work? I don't know the extent of the damage - some pics MIGHT help, but sometimes they do not give a true reflection!

Don't rush, take your time, and think it over.

    :)

Nearlyrich - I'm so pleased your ??DD?? is ok. that is awful news. I cringe when I drive under bridges with people above looking over, they just don't have a clue of how dangerous they can be.

    Cheers all :)

Thanks for the replies guys and tips rkuk

I did think about a scrap yard a friend is looking into it as he is in the trade, fortunately he wont rip me off, I trust him unlike many garages that would take advantage.

Well one thing I will be doing, as car is 95% is parked on the street all the time is to get a house with garage/drive so at least it will be off the street.

I would like car back as it was, I was hoping to have another year or so before scraping it, there hardly any rusty on the car, I actually resprayed the bad parts last Summer I have to but specialist paint from Halfords as they don't stock that colour, I managed to get the right colour, the car is a Skoda Felicia P reg colour is romantic red. Hey it might be a Skoda but is been a trusty car hence why I want to keep it for now.

    Thanks guys

nothing wrong with Skoda matey - just badge snobs that turn their noses up at them. they're all part of the VAG group which is good!

Be careful getting paint from Halfords. Either in the logbook/handbook there will be a data sticker detailing the chassis number, engine number and paint code. If not you ***COULD TRY*** looking in the boot of the car where the spare wheel is located - it might be a sticker in there.

I would be more tempted to get it done elsewhere by a sprayer...but then if your doing to scrap her next year possibly, then I guess what's the point? :)

    Good luck! :)

I waited for a friend to get back to me as he's a mechanic to get someone to spray car. I managed to source a rhs front panel for £29+vat but I got two quotes for putting panel and respray of panel and both were £150

Today I pick car up and then drive to my mothers to take her shopping and some swine has scratched the full length of my car, this is on a quiet cul de sac with eldery people one of the residents I suspect has done it as they dont want me to park my car outside there flats, I always try to be helpful and not directly in front so that they can easily offload.

I am uttlerly disgusted and fed up. I dont care anymore if the car is scrapped, stolen or whatever. I cant afford to repair it, I hope they are happy
