Someone hit my car

I went out at dinner time today to do some voluntary work, car is parked outside my house.

When I got dropped off later that afternoon, the OH was out and told me some swine has hit our car front wing. I large scratch and where the wing sticks out of the wheel, a large dint.

I really could do without this, what with my daughter being disabled and I also have some illness. I am planning on leaving and selling up as I have had enough of the noise, and inconsiderate drivers who use our street as a short cut.

Not happy but if anything I am more determined to move after this.

Thankfully car isn't as bad as I suspected although I am having a friend come around, who is a machanic to see how much damage is done. I dont have alot of cash and want every penny saved to move.

It isnt a expensive car, in fact its only worth a few hundred, but its our car, I look after it, I keep it well serviced, I drive carefully and obey the laws of the road, how dare this person just hit my car and then think nothing? They no they hit it isnt a big enough dint.

It maybe nothing to them, but its our car, its what we can afford its as worth as much to us as a new Chelsea tractor is to a affluent person.

I need my car to do the weekly shop and to take my daughter about as she is in a wheelchair, I get no handouts to help or DLA, so it is hard keeping the car going, I just lost some faith in human nature particualrly as I help others who are less fortunate than me.

Sorry to rant I am naturally angry and upset,

It's not much help - but I know how you feel. I've had this happen to me twice now. Really frustrating. I've had my licence for about 8 years now and driven over 160000 miles and (touch wood) never had an accident. But I've had 2 inconsiderate idiots crash into me and drive off.

Most frustrating one was earlier this year. Parked at work when it happened but unfortunately CCTV didn't pick up any details. Another case where I was left to pay hefty excess off my insurance.

Not helped by knowing that the person who did it was probably uninsured, not taxed and didn't have an MOT. There is no justice in this world is there!

Poor Poppycat. I'm afraid I have no useful advice to give but just wanted to sympathise with you. I know how annoying it can be. Hugs.

Thanks guys. I rang Police who may come tommorow. TBH there bene fine they let me know it cant be today due to drunks/ domestic Friday night agro

Hopefully I can get it repaired. Its only recently I started parking outside my house or there abouts as I had to give up my garage due to finanacies and then parked it on a quiet street but felt others wouldnt like it so parked it on our street as daughter is now disabled.

I been waiting for over ayear for a shared moragge so now its spurned me on to get moved, I was for once getting happy and could see some future, hopefully I still can.

Have you checked with neighbours to see if anyone saw anything? Likelihood is that unless there is some eyewitness evidence police will only give you a reference number for your insurance. If you had someone who saw something and perhaps could give a licence plate number or even colour/make of car it would be really helpful.

It may not help now, but get a couple of traffic cones, put them at each wheel on the road side of the car, then even if anyone comes too close, the cones buy it saving you some anguish.
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

    Thanks for the suggestions

I cant claim of insurance as its 3rd party fire and theft

I use to park the car on another street but now its such hassle getting it and finding a place to park particularly as my daughter is now wheelchair bound for foreseeable future. I also get the glare from some residents all elderly that I don't have right to park, yes I no there in the wrong but I try and be considerate where ever possible.

Its spurred me on to move quicker after today, I really cant bare much more living here, some people are just so inconsiderate. How would they feel living in there cosy secluded streets having to put up with there noise, there fumes, there !!!! they throw out of there cars, there get out of my way you have no right pulling up outside your hose to offload etc. Most don't even want to slow down in a 20 mph zone with 2 schools either, it angers me the contempt some of these have for peoples safety or for that matter quality of life, but that's another issue.

I just want a quiet life where I can raise my kids up in a safe quiet environment, they never had the chance to play for 2 reasons, 1 traffic, 2. Bullying by kids at playground.

Thankfully I am better trying to think positive, thankfully we wasn't hurt and damage could have been worse.

A friend I rang earlier who's a mechanic said he pop round on Sunday he has a mate who is a panel beater. If costs isn't too much I get it sorted. I cant afford another car.

That reminds me I got the last car because a neighbour hit my Fiesta and wrenched the front bumper with his thing they have at back of cars from towing. He paid for car only because he couldn't get away with it someone spotted him but in the end the car was so badly damage because it was rusty underneath I thought I get another.

    Talk about an over-reaction!

It is just a dent, big deal. My car (or shall I say last car), was vandilised serveral times through the year of me owning it.

Like your dent, these were also only minor things (dents, mirror smashed off etc).

Life went on, the car still got me from a to b. You are saying you need your car to do your shopping, well a dent is sure as hell not gunna stop that car from getting you to the shops.

It is a simple case of cosmetic damage, an annoyance - yes.

Whilst I appreciate your daughter is disabled, the car will still be functional as it was before this dent.

So just try to calm down a bit, looks like you could do with it!
