Seller won't let us look at house again until we exchanged contracts!

It is customary to make a final inspection. Not to measure up etc, but to check that nothing sinister has happened to the property in the meantime. The problem is I like the house so much, and love the area. Despite it being a buyers market, in our particular radius there is just nothing on the market in our budget right now! They all got snapped up before we sold and nothing new has come on since August.
I would be very upset to let this one go...
You can and will find another house you love better.
Don't be taken for a mug remember everything happens for a reason.
As others have said:
1. Warn your solicitor not to exchange and complete.
2. Demand a viewing when it's convenient for you, and if given rubbish ask the EA to give you a list of other houses to view and go and look at a few making positive comments, even if you know you aren't going to buy them.
Also there is nothing stopping you leafleting every house in the area you like telling them you are interested in buying.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Some smells rotten in Denmark...or wherever you are anyways! I cannot fathom for the life of me the replies here who would refuse a resonable amount of viewings after an offer has been made - and which I guess you have accepted. Cos unless you have something you are hiding from the buyers - noisy neighbours might be a guess - then what is 20 mins of your time? How is that some BIG inconvenience? Do you perhaps run a small Principality as a hobby and simply have no window in your diary?
Threaten to walk away...don't be bullied by a vendor...believe me, they need YOU more than you need them....

hiya...stand your ground..better to tread on a few toes by throwing your weight around than to buy a house and realise you have been screwed over as they are hiding. I would simply give an ultimatim..view by xxx or we are done0

If you had been taking the proverbial and had say 6 viewings then I could understand the seller's behaviour. But in the circumstances I would think it a reasonable assumption they have something to hide e.g. the sudden appearance of damp now that the weather has worsened, or the boiler has packed up or whatever. With so much money at stake, I think you would have to insist on the viewing and if you don't get it pull out.0

I again, clarified a weekend was possible only and the EA said vendor was too busy with removal companies coming round on weekends (What good will that be if we pull out!).

I've been chasing the problem all day.
Said to EA we really needed a weekend due to work commitments, prefably this weekend. So the vendor finally comes back and says we can look midday in a week day- well thats useful isnt it? I again, clarified a weekend was possible only and the EA said vendor was too busy with removal companies coming round on weekends (What good will that be if we pull out!). EA said vendor is being unfair and unreasonable but at the same time he did not want to push her too much! But its ok to push your buyers too much is it?! It feels like they couldnt care less if we walk now.
I asked why we couldnt see it today and the vendor was out apparently- however we did a 'drive-by' and lo and behold her car was there.
Either this vendor is lazy, a fool or getting cold feet.Or hiding something....
Whatever it is its getting me stressed seeing as completion for sale and purchase should be a month from today...
At which point I would have knocked on and said 'We were passing. As you're here can we just disturb you for 15 minutes?'. You might have learned a lot from the look in their eyes etc.0 -
Why not knock on the neighbours doors, tell them you're thinking of buying the place next door and ask them what the neighbourhood is like?
I've had someone do that and I thought at the time "what a good idea!"
