No the reason why they make you work for it is that they'll hope you'll forget or won't meet the T&C. That's how they make money. Every contract that's fully paid out, they make a loss on. However, they make huge profits on those that aren't.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

I agree with that money_grabber.
There must be loads who just can't be bothered chasing things up - not me though.
Long may it continue.

After all these sharky mobile companies offering cashback quote the "equivalent line rental" with the cashback - why not just make the line rental that value anyway.
You just don't get it I'm afraid. Were they to do that they would have to pay me line rental every month! For example, my latest acquisition would require them to pay me £5.39 each month; not sure what cashback deals you would do, but I rather doubt they would offer me mine if they did what you seem to think they should! Long may they continue doing things my way!0 -

Agreed, but it would be great if they honoured their agreements and didn't renege, relying instead on a certain percentage of customers failing to claim in accordance with constant, clear t&c rather than allegedly building in another percentage for denying legitimate claims.0 -
And spoil the game? Beating them at it is rather nice - an added bonus...0

I can see that there is a satisfaction in that. But as you know, you have a great deal of experience in doing just that and I bet there is the slight tingle when you think you might have to take it further knowing that you will win and cost them money if they are silly enough to fight it. (I am, for once, not knocking you for that, by the way. I would be exactly the same.)
But, let's be honest, it shouldn't be a game or a battle. Companies should be straight when they do business and the public have every reason to expect honesty and transparency from a big company like CPW.0 -
And pigs might fly! Companies simply aren't honest or transparent, neither are people for that matter. If this wasn't a game or a battle - I prefer game - it wouldn't exist and that would be a bad thing. It's already harder to find decent deals - and they are no-where near as good as they were - because of the crusade to force dealers to clean up their act. I do not subscribe to the theory that innocents need to be protected to save them from jumping in without proper research - or from asking even the basic and obvious question of WHY they can appear to get something for absolutely nothing whilst others have to pay hundreds of pounds a year for the same thing. People have time, access and all the information they need to make proper judgements and decisions. As always, protecting those who neglect the basics costs the people who don't - and that is unfair in my view. It's a level playing field - I am only so experienced because I put the legwork and research in not only beforehand but constantly ever since. Anyone else can do the same - I have never asked or wanted protection and when one dealer I used went under it was my risk and responsibilty and no-one elses. I currently have deals with higher-risk dealers - but I accept the risks.
No-one is forced into any cashback deal. There are enough warnings freely available for those who want to check first.0 -
So I would like companies to trade honestly and you would prefer them not to, so that, with your experience, you can take advantage of the better deals they can offer by not doing so?
Fair enough. Law of the jungle. We just have a different philosophy.0 -
I think we established that a year or more ago - though my "philosophy" is reality and not theory or wishful thinking. I didn't invent "the law" - and nothing anyone is likely to do or say will change how it works.0

Won't bore you or anyone about definition of philospohy etc. And I agree about wishful thinking, but you praise Phones4U outlets for being straight - at least on line. And there was a time when dealers seemed to be more honest - probably why they went bust.
And I further agree with you that if a dealer offers better deals because they have a business plan that includes not settling all legitimate claims, then, as long as that is allowed to go on, then take advantage of it if you are one of the "strong/confident" etc.
But the real difference is I do want dishonest dealers dealt with and you are happy the way things are as you can reap the benefits. (And by dishonest, I don't mean those who enforce their t&c honestly to the detriment of buyers who can't be bothered to read them)
That's not a dig or disagreement this time - just an understanding.
Have a good day. :beer:0
