help with my virgin media boxes please :0

Hi

I recently changed my virgin package.

I had V+ downstairs & 2nd V box upstairs.

I've cancelled the V+ and am now on the freeview channels & cancelled the 2nd box

I want to put the V+ box in my bedroom as i got freesat HD for the lounge.

Now i took the V+ box upstairs & plugged it in but its not showing on my tv, is this because i cant change them round?

can i do something in the box where the cables come in so that the signal still thinks its going to the lounge?

    Going by what you said:

You had 1x V box and 1x V+ Box, you cancelled the V+ box then also cancelled the 2nd box but still expect them to work?
Am I missing something? these boxes will also need to be returned to Virgin.

No sorry i cancelled the L package on the V+ down to freeview channels.

I was told virgin would send me a box to return the V box & they havent, so i am not keeping things that arent mine. Its their fault if they havent sent the box.

Virgin probably won't send a box - they'll send a man in a van about 6 weeks from the date you cancelled - that's how it worked for us.

Reason you can't swap them may be due to the cabling - the second box may 'piggy back' off the feed for the downstairs box - remove this and you remove the feed for upstairs.
  • ok so if i look where the cables come in from outside will there be 2 feeds? maybe i can then swap them so the downstairs one is going to the upstairs socket?

If i connect the V+ box downstairs it works fine.

The reason the v+ may not work is that the box has been disabled as it is no longer on your account.

jb66 is probably part way there and I misread the original post - I missed the fact one box was normal and one was V+!

The V+ system requires a different signal from the cable. You can't plug a V+ box into a non V+ line. If you've cancelled V+ the V+ box will still receive a signal downstairs, but you can't use the V+ recording features and you'll get an annoying message everytime you change channel telling you the V+ system isn't activated and to call Virgin.

my V+ box is now set to recieve the free virgin channels, i dont get any messages.
I dont use it to record because that function is no longer working unless i resubscribe

Do you think there is any way of getting it working upstairs? maybe if i call them they would be able to do something to the line or reactivate the other box instead?

If you explain more than "its not showing on my TV" there may be more answers here, if you are not even seeing a no signal message or no menu is coming up sounds like a TV connection issue.

But is that is not the case and if you are paying a virgin subscription then get them round to fix.

Just phone and say its stopped working, the tech guy who visits wont know or care which room is the main and which is the multi-room as the feeds to both rooms will be the same.
  • it says no signal on the tv, but the tv works with the v box & my freeview so i know its not a problem with the tv

i'll call virgin was just hoping it could be a quick fix

    thanks
