If you are doing this so that you can do a college course you would be better to stay at work until next summer as courses will have started recently and you will be too late (unless you're planning to do one of the rare January start courses).

What does your husband think about working such long hours at the same time that you are cutting yours down?
  • Have you considered looking at online courses, open university or some of the other providers who offer course to improve qualifications? This may be an option for you.

There are alot of families with one member working full time and the other part time or not at all so you would be no different to them. We are all allowed to make choices.

However, you may find that your partner who works 50+ hours per week may earn too much to entitle you to much if the way of benefits apart from child benefit (universal benefit at mo) and possible child tax credits it really depends on his income. Tap your current income and possible new income into entitled to and see what the guidelines show.

Of course we are. It just grates when someone expects that some other person will pay for those choices.

I was about to suggest Open University....I am doing it and have found it a great way to study and fit it around the needs of my children, unfortunately, there is no way I could go to a proper university.

It does take longer and it can get stressful fitting it all in at times (I do the majority of my study in the wee hours of the morning...it helps being an insomniac) but it is worth it in the end.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
