If your husband is working fifty hours a week, you could find that you are not able to get any additional benefits if you leave work completely. His income may be too high for you to claim anything.

People are upset because you are expecting tax payers to pay for a choice that ALL of us would make if we could. Why would some work full-time and pay high taxes to allow others like you to have a less stressful life and improve your chances of a better career?

You might not be feeling well at the moment, but that's like many of us, going through the threat of redundancies, increased workloads because of it, stress and depression because of the state of the economy. Do you expect tax payers to pay for your child to continue to go to childcare whilst you do all this? I am a single mum of two working full-time with no support from family. A few years back, going through another reconfiguration, I was at my lowest, exhausted and desperate for a change. I decided to retrain, so applied for a master's degree.....which I studied for in the evenings and week-ends whilst I continue to work full-time. Why should I be subsidising for you to reduce your hours so you can do it in leisure time when I had to work so hard to do it?

I undestand your frustration and your desperation to have it easier, but the way you want to go about it just isn't right and that is why you are getting such negative responses.

You can model the impact to your household income if you reduce your hours by putting the current and future scenarios through the Turn2us online benefit calculator.

You may qualify for tax credits, council tax rebate and local housing allowance, depending on your income, if you rent, your age and if you have dependents.

The fact of the matter is that a person doesn't have to justify why the work part-time. For some, it's because its the only work they can find or they have domestic commitments or health issues that prevent them from working full time. For others, it's because of a lifestyle preference. The benefits system doesn't distinguish between this.

A lady earlier this year posted on this forum about the tax credits situation because she wanted to spend more time at home with her dog.

But that's what upset most people. In one hand you have people who expect to get things for 'free', on the other, you have a system that encourages it wholeheartedly.

Get on entitledto to check benefit entitlement- need to know hubby's income, number of children, council tax, rent, mortgage etc.
I don't know enough about you to say how much you will get, but agree with the others that the wording of your post did sound a bit dodgy!
    Anyway....
