Young drivers insurance, pulling my hair out!
Comments

The car is 1.25, I have done the same quotes on 0.9cc Saxo and it took like £300 off so clearly the problem is my age combined with the fact that im male. Ticking the female option almost halves the cost, very unfair in my opinion.0

Sounds about right as young male drivers are about twice as likely to have an accident than young females in the first three years of driving.
It is not unfair because unfortunately insurance companies base their quotes on statistics and they are not good for young male drivers.0 -
Hope you do manage to get insurance at a reasonable level!
My 19 year old son has just insured a 1.2cc Fiat Punto for £900 fully comp with 2 years ncd with Admiral (me as named driver) - last year he paid £1200 3rd party with Churchill and the first year £1500 with Quinn. I know insurance costs have risen but would strongly advise pass-plus as a mechanism of reducing your insurance costs down (even institute of advanced motorists test), speak to a broker and consider whether you could find a cheaper car to insure (perhaps something less trendy?) - good luck!0 -

Your advice is now out of date.
Pass plus is no longer the "mechanism" it was for reducing insurance costs. (Or the IAM) If you find an insurer who gives a discount, then their base price is generally higher than the competition anyway.
(But do pass plus and/or IAM if you can afford to for the benefit it gives you in terms of your driving skills)0 -
I don't think Gary Hart's Land Rover was worth £30million+ - but that's the estimated bill that Fortis (and so Munich Re) had to meet.
Nor was Bryan Drysdale's Mazda 323 worth £50 million+ - but that's the estimated bill that the MIB (and so all insured drivers) had to meet.
The value of the car is only one component of the risk and may have no bearing on the size of any claim.
Surely that should have increased the premiums of 37 year old, and 48 year olds? Not 17 year olds.0 -
Try the black box/PAYD/limited mileage companies. I-kube, Insure the Box and Coverbox0

is it possible to value the car at £0.00 ? wonder if thats possible??, and if so, if it reduced the premium.
Afterall if it saves you £600 off the annual insurance premium you can buy a new car with the savings in the unlikly event that your car is stolen/written off.....
just an idea... no clue if it will work!! (or is this just the same as insuring "third party only"?)0 -
As folk have tried to explain, it's not the value of the car that determines the premium!0

Hi first post so apologies if not in correct format.
Just insured 19yr old sons, fiesta 1.3 finesse 52 plate. good quotes from aviva and Mr Ts both about £1700. We do lucky live in a low crime rate area.
Unfortunately Mr T's underwriters do not accept drivers with provisional licences over 2 years old, which I found out when rechecking quote info.
Does not make any difference if you only started to learn to drive recently, and only got licence for age ID.0 -

Are the black box schemes still going?0
