You only need to back up things like; pictures, letters/documents, photographs, email contacts (peoples email address'), website favourites (listed under favourites in Internet Explorer), background/themes. Basically anything you have set up on your computer that it didnt come with originally and that you added because you needed/wanted it.
All "important computer" (system) files come with Windows so you dont need to back any of that up.

Thanks Safesound I understand it more now.

My daughter is the one who wanted Office because she hates Microsoft works. She is a student and wants a better one.

Office 2010 trial download is available -- but time limited expiry

    http://www.openoffice.org/ (free) gets decent reviews.

    HTH .

If your daughter does want office (2010), then have a look at software4students.co.uk as they have a range of different software titles at a discount for students.
    good advice ! :)

Right ok, on the software4students website it says that I can purchase 2 lots of Windows 7 if I have 2 students and I have my son is also a student at the same college but when i registered and it said to list the second student in my account section only my daughter was showing up and nothing to add a second student. I'll have another look in the morning otherwise i'll have to phone them up. If i can get 2 windows 7 then with microsoft office on offer on that site my total would be £116.

Thank you all again for your help.
