    I've been Money Tipped!
Decided to go to Costco today instead of waiting til the end of the month! ended up spending £75.42 on Groceries - got enough loo rolls and kitchen towel to last ages, 5 lts fairy washing machine liquid, lg peanut butter (make peanut butter cookies with this),large block cheese, 2 large tom ketchup, 2 large ribena, chicken fillets, lg yogurt, 15 packets sugar and a treat (18 bags of tyrells crisps).

We did some Christmas shopping there as well but that comes out of our rainy day savings account (covers Christmas, birthdays, holidays and emergencies).

On tues our fishman calls and spent another £6.44 on some cod and freerange eggs. A trip to Mr S meant another £35 spent (had visitors staying).

Now have about £69 left for rest of month! On the plus side we are well stocked up and will only need to venture out for milk, fresh fruit and veg etc.,
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

  • I have looked back over the thread but can't find the cauliflower rice thing mentioned by Moniker - what do you do? Do you just grate raw cauliflower and then steam it - but wouldn't it go all mushy? I would be really interested to know as I am going in for an operation on 29th and have to avoid carbs for two weeks before the op itself.

I have a £12 off a £60 shop voucher which expires today. Now the thing is that I don't need anything really but I am tempted by the 3 for 2 on the baking stuff at Tescos - though I would never spend £60 on just that! I have full freezer and cupboards - except for Bread and milk which I will need mid-next week and have nowhere to store if bought now. It is driving me mad that I could get £12 of free stuff!!!!!!

Am hoping to make some twinks hobnobs tonight for lunchboxes next week. Might add some cherries and almonds to them.

Am just doing my meal plan for the coming week. Hope you all have a nice saturday evening!

Have been a bit bored today - it's been a clean the house, catch up on chores sort of day. It has to be done I suppose, and tomorrow I'm going to a house party so that should all make up for it. :D

£1.50 spent on some milk from the little Mr T, and that's me for the week. I've also been looking for the cauliflower rice recipe to no avail :(

    How about a nice curry?

Or if you go to R1verfords website you can search for recipes using specific veg & there will be loads of good things on there.

    Me again,
Walnut Sables: perfect to serve with soup instead of bread. Take equal quantities of plain white flour, butter and grated Cheddar cheese (aprox 125gms of each)...
    Spigs

Fantastic all, many thanks! And for posting the "sables" bit before I had the chance to ask! Never heard of them before, sounds yummy.
I have discovered from the great cookbook that is google that pumpkin can also be mashed with butter & black pepper like swede so that's 2 good things to try, definitely worth the great expense :D Just off to the recommended website to see what else they have!

Following the thread on portion control - definitely an issue here, i had to spend a lot of time and effort looking at it when I was losing weight but have rather let it slip since. I had been having to weigh everything, which is a right pain in the neck although sometimes worth it for the educational value. It's a particularly big issue when my OH cooks, he's pretty good and it's great that he does cook... but moderation apparently does not apply to cheese and butter  as well as pasta and various other things!
  • oh and i almost forgot - missing rice ? cauliflower rice makes a wonderful replacement - using the grater blade on food processor "grate" the cauliflower , then place in a microwaveproof dish , cover and ping for 8 mins .

Why do men not listen...or is it just mine? I made a casserole in the SC yesterday, mostly veg but with a lamb leg steak put on top, was very nice but as usual I'd made far too much. Today we had some for lunch, and because there was still some left, I said to OH that I would freeze the rest and have it for my lunch later in the week, as there was only enough for one portion.

So we finished lunch and he went to the kitchen to do the washing up (he is good for something, lol!), and I went out a few minutes later to see the pan, that the rest of the casserole was in, was on the dish drainer! I asked what he'd done with the contents, and he said he'd put it down the sink so he could wash the pan! When I reminded him what I'd said about having it later in the week, his response was 'I thought you'd already taken that out!' For some reason he didn't realise that the pan having something in it, meant that I hadn't taken it out, if I had then it would have been empty, hopefully he will learn and not do it again but I wouldn't bank on it, lol!

I grated about half a small cauliflower in my food processor so it was quite fine, then added a bit of salt and covered it with water. Then I covered the bowl with clingfilm, vented to let steam escape and microwaved it on high for 5 mins, stirred and then gave it another 5. I then drained it and served it up. It made two big helpings.

Diflower, thanks for the original tip - but we don't eat garlic or asian food, so I won't be trying those ones! However, I am thinking about combining cauli with other veg. I have never eaten celeriac but might give this a go if it is not too expensive!

Had a trip into town today and we have a new Co-*p! so of course I had to go in and have a look... came out with some bananas, oranges and cream and some chocolates (well we have visitors tomorrow coming to lunch so needed them to serve with the coffee - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!) Also had to pop into local Budgen for a few things I 'forgot' - purse is now £11.98 lighter! However, they were all things I would have had to buy later in the week .. apart from the chocolates that is! Sig is duly updated.

Have been busy making a lemon meringue pie for tomorrow and also made another loaf for the week. I substituted 100gms of white flour with 100gms of soya flour and it seems to have worked ok - at least it has risen and smells good! We will have to see what the eating is like.

Well that's it for tonight - must go and serve up our lasagne before 'Strictly' starts!

    Have a good evening peeps.

    £53 spent in Mr S today - from a £45 budget!:o

We have everything we need for the week and so will NOT be buying anything else! So there!

If you take off the treats bought for staying in tonight it comes to more like £49 but its still money out of the bank so I may as well count it.
    Must try harder
  • Shopping yesterday & today OMG £62+

But now have enough meat(£2.50 chickens x 4 from M&S) & store cupboard items for the rest of the month just need fresh fruit/veg milk and bread, sould be within budget.

Just updated signature need to have a few more NSDs.
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it. :)

Another NSD day here, but have realised that I have eaten all of the chocolate I bought to make nigellas peanut butter cheesecake with tomorrow. I've promised OH I will make it, so I'll have to pop to the village shop in the morning (only open 10-12). It is very overpriced for that sort of thing, but does also have some great veg from the local farms etc, so I may spend a bit more. Might just go with £5, then I can't spend alot!
Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.
