But jet washing wont stop it getting icy/slippery will it. I have same problem with my patio slabs. We jet wash and spend hours brushing off mulching leaves this time of year but a touch of frost/ice and wohoa, Im slipping again :(

Is that for real?! Strange that a touch of frost or ice and things get slippery ;)

Cleaing off mould and leaf mulch residue will improve the quality of the top surface of whatever you are walking on by taking it back to the natutal wood/concrete surface. But if decking is wet or concrete is frosty IT WILL BE SLIPPERY ! :D

So the OP is saying that even in high summer , with a clean decking ( no green muck) their decking becomes slippery ? when it rains.

Wire netting, commonly called "Chicken Wire"

A few meters of that and a handful of staples.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Mega attractive , a boon to the looks of any decking .
Would rather rip up and throw away all the decking.

Wonder what the tape looks like in situ
  • You can buy anti-slip decking coating but its expensive, around £20-30 a can to do 30m2, but you might need more than one coat, or if the decking is grooved it won't go so far. Cuprinol do it among others

This sounds awful :o, but a cheap way of getting non-slip paint for an outside step is to take a can of normal outside step-type paint and mix it with some sand before painting it on. Looks pretty much the same as the paint alone, but it makes the surface rough and non-slip.

Could you do a similar thing with the usual decking treatment? If you choose a sand that is a similar colour to your decking then it might look okay too.

By the way, I'd try this out on a test patch first - I know it works well for concrete and wooden steps, not sure for decking though!

    :D
  • drill a load of long screws thru from underneath the decking ....... just avoid going out barefoot .......(use brass or stainless to avoid rust obviously ...)
