Renault modus radiator rip off

I have had the misfortune of having to replace my 2005 Renault Expression 1.5 Dci 80 radiator this week after breaking down on the motorway. I was initially quoted £300 for the new radiator, but it became apparent that my model (with air con) had a radiator that was a single unit with the aircon - renault part only that cost £317. Taken with the labour needed to remove the front of the car and re-gas the aircon I am looking at a bill of £600!!

I have only had the car 6 months and already I have had to replace a headlight switch at a cost of £250. No garage would touch the electrics so that was a dealer only job!

I would advise people to be very cautious buying a modus since the cost of everything seems to be greatly inflated.

It is the same for all cars nowadays.

Front bumper for mine is £350, wing £350 etc etc

You need to start searching elswhere or source secondhand parts on the likes of EBay.

totally agree with hintza. all new car parts from the dealer will be expensive,and labour rates from the dealer will also be expensive.

your cars 5 years old things will go wrong,but don't be mad enough to take it to the dealers.

heres a second hand headlight switch aswell. you could probably even have fitted this yourself. saving £200.

Oh dear........

Daihatsu years ago wanted close on £400 for a Heater Matrix for our Sportrak we had... Had a new aftermarket one sent from a Manufacturer in Birmingham for under £60. All the Jap breakers wanted £50+postage as was common fault with the Sportrak.

Dont be stung by the dealerships... Headlight switch 250... Rad £300 +fitting.... I'm seeing a patern...

Not that I have one but Kia with their 7 year warranty can seem very tempting when I read theads like this.

Renault have infact come a long way in workmanship on their vehicles.

I've had Renaults all my life and haven't had many major niggles. I'm currently driving a Renault Sport Clio 197 and have had zero problems to date - Not even needed a bulb in 3 years.

Before that i had a Renault Sport Clio 182 - That had a cam belt snap but that was the dealers fault (admitted by them too) and the engine was replaced under warranty for free.

A few years ago i worked for a subsidary of the AA, I done roadside recovery and had a flat bed lorry, I only did it for a year as the money was poor but from my experience i used to attend more Mercedes/BMW faults that any other make of vehicle.

I attended one Renault in that time which was a Scenic, It was being used as a taxi car and where he was eating in the car he had crumbs in the key card slot so the key card couldn't be read. Not Renaults fault but like i say they are pretty solid cars unless you buy a lemon.

No Manufacturer is better than the other. It's out own conception that drives us to buy a certain brand. some like German, some like Japanese, some like American.
