Renault have infact come a long way in workmanship on their vehicles.

No Manufacturer is better than the other. It's out own conception that drives us to buy a certain brand. some like German, some like Japanese, some like American.

That would explain why the mechanics at our local Renault Dealers all excepting the workshop foreman ( he gets a company car ) all drive Toyota's, Honda's etc., none of them drive Renault's.;)

all new car parts from the dealer will be expensive.

On my MK3 Mondeo, a brand new genuine Ford alternator from the main dealer was £50 cheaper than a reconditioned one with only a 6 mth guarantee from the motor factors. Likewise some parts like oil filters. So its not always the case.

Renault have never been cheap for parts, though I haven't heard of anybody having a radiator fail on a Modus or any other Renault, unless there was damage caused by a stone or similar.

If the same part had failed on a Yaris diesel with AC or a 207 with the same spec then the price would be similar.

Cars aren't cheap to run, and yours has adecent spec, diesel and AC, so the parts has to work and fit into a small space, therefore it is expensive, though you can hardly blame the dealer because they want to do the job correctly, you haven't mentioned the fact that your car comes at the top of the NCAP tree, as this is relevant in how much needs to be taken off to preform repairs to the car.

Would you rather they tried to squeez it in without stripping down the front end, though I think if they did this and caused damage we would be reading a thread about how a main dealer tried a bodge job on your car and damaged your new radiator.

ford parts are pretty good from dealers, well consumable items anyway. same as vauxhall, they aren't too bad for consumable everyday items.

but thinks like radiators and headlight switches are hardly consumable items and will usually fetch a premium from dealers as they are less in demand

i remember about 15 years ago renault wanted £8 for a door pin, effectively it was just a roll pin you could buy from anywhere for pennys.
    ...work permit granted!
  • None of these listed radiators actually fits the model of modus I have!
  • I didn't have the radiator job done at a dealer - the independent garage I was using was unable to get a radiator that fitted apart from a renault part. They got a cheaper radiator that was supposed to fit but was not the one for the A/C model, despite saying it was.
  • I only used a dealer for the switch since no other garage wanted to touch the electrics - and I didn't use a dealer for the radiator... the only part that could be bought that actually fitted the Modus model I have was a renault part - despite attempts to source parts that were supposed to fit.....
  • Link to Ebay modus radiator

Again - this radiator would not fit the Modus I have with A/C.... The garage got one of these, but the one needed for my Modus had to be a single unit with the radiator and A/C cooler...

There's no beating about the bush here:

    (1) You bought a French car

    (2) You bought a Renault

    (3) You bought one of the least popular cars in the range. This means that pattern parts will often not be available due to the small numbers of that type of car on the road.

Renaults ARE good cars - if you buy new and sell them once the warranty is up. Time and time again on the forum we see the same problem of people with French sheds with faulty cars.

    That'll be right.
They all drive Japanese cars, and don't bother with the staff discounts, free servicing, and all the other perks they'll get, because Toyota is so much better.
