I think most forums that are run as a business sell out eventually - thats just the nature of the beast im afraid.
Unless we have forums like this set up by individuals who do not run it as a business...then thats the only way that will ever change.
You made a good point above asking why it seems to be Lowells all the time?
There are hundreds of similar DCA's in this country - so why them in specific all the time.
My thinking is that maybe they are the focal point for the DCA industry as a whole in what it is trying to achieve on these forums.
Most people will agree that Lowells have the worst reputation throughout the entire DCA industry on these types of forums - so what have they got to lose by doing this? answer = nothing at all from what i can see & if as a result, they suddenly notice their profits going upwards, then they will see it as a case of "job done" effectivley.

I agree that anyone has a right of reply. I would have no issue whatsoever with a DCA opening an account, and making posts on the forum under a registered username. I'd even encourage accounts used to post on behalf of companies having a special 'company representative' status to make their posts more noticable.

But that should be done in the open under a registered account, not by proxy as a result of crying to the moderators.
I would be delighted to debate with them on the open forum , but allowing them to ambush someone asking for help is disgracefull , MSE , should be ashamed .

The moderator should know full well that if the person asking for help does ring Lowells, then they are only gonna be bullied into making payments or a payment.
Lowells are not in business to help people, despite what they may say & they are only there to collect money on behalf of their client.
Its not in Lowells best interests to have everyone repaying debts at a £1 per month or something like that - so its only logical that they are gonna try to extract as much money as possible, using whatever methods they can get away with.
Why the MSE mod cannot see this is a mystery?

    Agreed.

My OH has been chased by Lowell since April this year, they ignored pretty much every letter we sent and just carried on harrasing us for months.

Finally, last week we got a letter "it turns out you are not the person we were looking for after all and can assure you that your credit rating has not been affected, please accept our apologies"

Bloody liars, they stuck a default for over £3k on his credit file, how could that not (!!??) affect his credit? Oh and stick your apology.

Lowells (as with every other DCA) only prey on those they sense are vunerable or are likely pay up after a bit of pressure.
I've been chased by just about every DCA over the past few years - yet everyone of them has left me alone because they are left in no uncertain terms were they stand with me.
The DCA industry only survives because of peoples fear & ignorance.
Forums like this are getting rid of those fears & ignorances gradually.
Thats what the DCA industry finds difficult to accept & why it is doing what it can to stop it.
  • Can we maybes go back to helping the OP now, the actual purpose of this thread.

If the MSE/Lowells post had ulterior aims to disrupt the forum, they're winning at the moment. They havent posted since, either in own right or through MSE, MSE have seen how upset people are, lets get back to what we are all here for

The CRA's & DCA's are 2 cheeks of the same backside effectivley.
Lowells will have stuck the info on the credit file & the CRA will have been only too willing to assist them.
Once we start seeing the same level of fightback towards the CRA's as what we have had towards the DCA's over the past few years...then thats when things really will change ;)

When Consumer Action Group let LOWELL, s , post the same message it caused loads of long time posters to leave , MSE , must understand the strength of feeling among MSE members , what they have done is not acceptable , it is a betrayal , now answer the question .

Iunderstand you clearly feel strongly about this, but your hijacking the OP thread needing help

Maybe it would be useful to start your own thread, so OP can get the info they need without risk of missing anything
