yesterday i must've parked their as i thought its still allowed, but i went today and saw 2 parking tickets :s

apparently rules have changed which i wasn't aware off. i had look at yellow board and saw theirs no mention of term time, it did before...

i know its my fault not to check again, but do i have any case for appeal?

I would suggest that you read the highway code. Parking in these areas is prohibited, and it has always been this way.
  • Hi

i am pretty sure few years ago around my house it was allowed...we wasn't allowed to park their during term time, but on school holidays we use to park their, i have spoken to few neighbours and they just told me the signs changes last year

    Read the highway code; http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_069860

Which states "You MUST NOT stop or park on......a pedestrian crossing, including the area marked by the zig-zag lines (see Rule 191)"

Rule 191 states "191. You MUST NOT park on a crossing or in the area covered by the zig-zag lines. You MUST NOT overtake the moving vehicle nearest the crossing or the vehicle nearest the crossing which has stopped to give way to pedestrians. [Laws ZPPPCRGD regs 18, 20 & 24, RTRA sect 25(5) & TSRGD regs 10, 27 & 28]"

This has always been the rule. Why else would they paint the zigzags if they had no meaning?

There are sometimes different timed restrictions on Zig-Zags outside schools ie: you can park outside certain hours or on specified days , it will tell you on the signs what these are.. if it says no parking now on the signs then I doubt you have any hope of getting away with it..

Don't think you were meant to park on them, that is why they are there. I guess you have been very lucky not getting a ticket before now.

    The Highway Code
You MUST NOT park on a crossing or in the area covered by the zig-zag lines. You MUST NOT overtake the moving vehicle nearest the crossing or the vehicle nearest the crossing which has stopped to give way to pedestrians

  • I know high way code lol but i have spoken to 3 residents that live outside school and they all have said yes you was able to park on those zig zag lines up until last year when they changed the signs, before signs were you cant park during term time but on holidays you can, but now or last year they have changed it to all the time respective if its term time or holidays - this is where i did mistake

one of neighbour has photo of sign where it said term time only on sign which was removed last year. Which i guess i can use?

People, he is not talking about the zig zags at pedestrian crossings. He is talking about those outside school gates which are covered by
    Highway code rule 238

You MUST NOT wait or park on yellow lines during the times of operation shown on nearby time plates (or zone entry signs if in a Controlled Parking Zone) – see 'Information signs' and 'Road markings'. Double yellow lines indicate a prohibition of waiting at any time even if there are no upright signs. You MUST NOT wait or park, or stop to set down and pick up passengers, on school entrance markings (see 'Road markings') when upright signs indicate a prohibition of stopping.

Edit: you need to check to see what the traffic order says. They may have changed it from fixed times to 24 hrs

Yes it may well of said that last year but it doesn't now... you did this yesterday and expect the council to let you use a picture of a sign that is now irrelevent to help you get off of paying a perfectly legal parking ticket.. its not going to work.. it was your responsibility to check the parking restrictions before parking..

  • thing is i live on the side road of that place, so i know i did that mistake of not looking, but if i do go somewhere new i always look at signs, as i live just their 100mitres from the place, i didnt or dont really look at signs everyday/time. i dont think anyone would, you would most likely look when you go to somewhere new.

guess i just have to pay for it
