What not to wear - obscene!

Not the programme but the amount of money these people are spending on their weddings. I wonder how long it will take to pay these amounts of money back! £23,000 for one wedding!

Weddings and Marriage complete waste of time and money.
You dont need an evil slip of green paper (not my words) to show how much you love someone

"If you love a woman, dont marry her"

It may be that they aren't using credit to pay for it.

    Unlikely - but possible...

Weddings cost a fortune. I got married this year and spent around £5K and that was a small wedding for 45 people. I don't know how people manage bigger and flashier weddings, although good luck to them if they have the money to spend.

    No rings - you're being "post-modern".

  • I got married last August and spent about 10k, 2.5k of that was gifted by my parents, DH's parents gifted around 1k.

The rest we got together ourselves by working an extra job in the call-centre from hell for 18 months! Not a penny of ours was paid for on credit, am really proud of that! :A

  • We eloped - we bought the licence and spent about £4 on a couple of hot chocolates after and we both went back to work in the afternoon...

I don't begrudge anyone spending what they want on their wedding day but it's just one day out of their lives - and there is a world of difference between a wedding and a marriage which I'm not entirely convinced a lot of people realise judging by some of the comments I've heard from my friends and family. If they don't have the big blow out bells and whistles wedding of their dreams it's almost not worth getting married - what kind of attitude is that?

If I had that kind of money to spend on a wedding - I'd still elope and spend what I could on a holiday of a lifetime and the rest would go towards building a future together.

(PS Our 'wedding rings' cost £5 each from Cardiff market and I don't think either of us have worn them since - imagine spending hundreds on a ring just to see it go back in the drawer!!)
  • Ruby - sounds perfect and very romantic!

We spent quite a bit of money on our wedding and honeymoon and all of it was from savings. We agreed at the start we would not go in to debt for it and we didn't.

I am sure people will think we spent too much, but we spent it on the things that mattered to us (including a 3.5 week honeymoon in Australia), it was our money to do with as we wanted and we don't regret a penny.
