No - you don't need to get rid of it and you won't be "tortured." I had the same experience as the other posters on this thread - and it was posted here before too.

Like others I insisted they wrote saying that my non-existent "account" had been cancelled and I didn't owe them anything.

They did and I've heard nothing more - that was months ago.

Glad the issue has been resolved for most. Can I just add, please make sure you have some written confirmation to say your details have been removed and that there is no charge for the book. If you call them about it, follow up with a letter/email to confirm what has been said.;)

sent mine back the day i recieved it, and also put a letter in the box saying that i don't know where the account details came from and to remove my details and i don't wish to recieve any further contact from them, i hav'nt recieved a letter to confirm they have stopped the account, but they were quick enough to send me another invoice for 99p. what is up with these people, can't they do their job as i had sent wriiten confirmation. i refuse to pay for the book as i have sent it back, which cost a bit in postage. i will have to ring them or something if they keep sending me invoices. i mean i sent the book back !!!

Thanks for all your advice, ive had no further contact so far. Its nice to know im not alone, seems like a marketing ploy to me then, hoping people dont bother to phone.

I did fone actually sopplayer, its an 0870 number? will that be expnsive?
I dont want to have inadvertantly paid for the book in fone call cost!! (I live with my parents!!)

i received one too however i think it is from a site i had registered wth and i emailed them and they said they would close my account and i keep keep book, i received another statement for the 99p but it was dated before email.

i would email them and keep email for your records incase they try to take further action.

just quote the unsolicited mail act 1974 i think itis in the vent board just search for mango.

This is an attempt at inertia selling (which is illegal). The cost of the book plus handbag is less than the cost given to return them, so many people will pay just to close off the idea they have an outstanding payment. However if you do this you explicitly join the Mango book club and it will be the devil's own job to shake them off. There are some reports that Mango pass the "debts" onto a debt collection agency.

The parent company was pulled up by Watchdog for this practice last year, but clearly are continuing it. The details are coming from consumer databases, probably freebie related, but the company are claiming people signed up explicitly which is pure nonsense but difficult to disprove.

PS: I sent them a few hundred megabytes of project Gutenburg free books in return. Others might like to do the same.

I had one sent too, a while back, I emailed them aand they sent a prepaid address label. Book went back, and I have not heard anything else from them, thank goodness!

I actually received two books! Rang up and started to complain. They did not even attempt to justify themselves and immediately agreed to close my account. I got to keep Marian Keyes but they will send me an envelope to return the other book.
Am now selling marian keyes on amazon ;-) So hopefully I will get something out of this freebie... :j

i got this too, but stupidly i paid the bloody invoice cos i thought i must have joined it!! do you think it's too late to ring/email them (plus i've got the book on ebay to sell!)
