Isn't your problem due to irresponsible cat owners though, not cats.

If the cat owners don't provide cat litter then cats will do their business anywhere convenient.

We dislike cats because of their owners.

We use proprietary cat scarers. They don't appear to work for everybody but they seem to work fine for us.

We have a litter tray for our cat (that is cleaned out on a regular basis) but I can't say that she doesn't also use the garden (I have found cat poo in my flower bed, couldn't say whether it's hers or another cat's though). If I had the ability to go out and follow her wherever she went then of course I would be happy to pick up her poop just like dog owners (well some of them) but it's not really feasable to go climbing through other people's gardens all day.

As people suggested, water is a very good deterrant, we have a bully of a cat that keeps attacking ours in our garden and it's getting the message with the water tactic. There is also a product called Silent Roar which is basically pellets impregnated with lion dung, though there have been mixed reviews on how effective this is. It's not the cheapest of products, this is the best priced place I could find afte rmuch internet searching http://www.primrose-london.co.uk/ delivery was very quick too.

Have you also tried something like netting over your boarders? I know it won't look terribly pretty but it could be an option until the cats get the message?

If you're gonna use one of these, you may as get one of those pump action water pistols. That what I do.

I agree...pump action water gun. I'm a cat lover and have two pampered (indoor...main road too busy) moggies to prove it but when I noticed a strange cat mooching round the nest boxes I used one of the kids' water guns from an upstairs window on it. Strangely satisfying, it doesn't hurt the cat, they don't associate it with human presence if you hide behind the curtains, it's cheap and doesn't hurt the garden or environment and what's more cats hate it and start giving the garden a wide berth.

Is there not a plant that give's of an odor that cat's are meant to dislike?

I might try the human wee method, the Saturday just gone i picked up a shovel full of their mess :( I must have four or five different cat owners around me so pinpointing one won't work.
  • Human wee certainly works for foxes. I haven't tried it since we moved and cats became an issue, but I will be giving it a try. Luckily I have an enthusiastic son, who is only too happy to be allowed to wee outside, so I don't have to mess around with jugs.

What really annoys me about cats, is that the owners don't put a bell on their collars. At least that way they wouldn't kill quite so many birds.

Buy a Super Soaker (you know, one of those gun-like giant water pistols). They shoot a long way and quite hard too. Fill with a vinegar-water mix (cats hate vinegar, particularly when they have to lick it off when they wash themselves).

get a catwatch. It most definitely works and is the only thing that does. Expensive but worth every pennny
  • Try putting some Eucalyptus oil in a spray bottle top up with water and spay on were the cat's go,good luck.
  • Buy the owner a present or two.

A pot of this and one of this should help the problem.

Take the ID labels off before you hand them over.

    Maybe follow up with this.

Sit back and enjoy the cats in your neighbour's garden rather than yours.

    Hi,

We've had sucess with pepper, it takes abit of doing, as it obviously gets washed away in the rain.

Clear up the original mess then put pepper down there. They will likely poo somewhere else, so then you have to put pepper down there. I think we had to do this 3 times, but it did work in the end.
