Car Insurance - Beware, Use of another car

My concern is that those who don't check will only find out when someone tries to make a claim against them
I accept your concern but it is undeniably the drivers responsibility to make sure they are insured before they drive.
"I made an assumption and was not told otherwise" is absolutely NOT good enough. They need proof positive before driving.
But I do understand your concern.and the injured party will be the one to lose out
That's not right, becuase there is a fund that pays out for uninsured drivers.
However it is morally wrong because we all pay for that in our premiums.0 -
Would you care to name a few of those mainstream insurers who include this as a standard no cost option?
I'm insured through Swiftcover and have this, and my OH is insured through Direct Line and it's on his policy too...We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

My policy with the Pru, underwritten by Churchill, has DOC cover. I always double check it is still included when I phone to haggle at renewal.0

Egg, members of the Admiral group - you do need to double check with them all that you have this.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

This is not true of ALL Barclays policies, Barclays use many different underwriters, the initial quote you get from Barclays ie. online, will always be thier best price and it might include the drive other cars extension or it might not depending on the underwriter. If you need DOC cover then, as ever it's always best to actually pick up the phone, speak with an advisor and let them know what you want your car insurance to cover you for, you can never presume anything in insurance, always best to read the documents carefully.0

Well, I did complain to Barclays as I said I would.
Despite some people's response on here that I was in the wrong for assuming the conditions of the policy, Barclays are in full agreement with me that I should have been informed of the exclusion on the policy.
They agree that this should have been made clear online and that I should not have been expected to phone tham as this defeats the point of applying online.
As a result Barclays have agreed to waive the cancellation fee and, in some ways more importantly, have appologised and thanked me for raising the issue which has now been forwarded so that they can review their online process.
Hopefully this might help other people avoid this same situation.
Shame I had to complain but all due respect to Barclays for sorting it out in the end.0
