Car Insurance - Beware, Use of another car

I do sympathise John that it wasn't there up front.
BUT ultimately Quentin is right.
If it wasn't there you should have asked up front, not taken the policy and then queried it later.
The time to ask questions is before you commit.0 -
I understand what you're saying but as Lilin said I've never come accross this before & I've used the same method of buying insurance all these years.
If this is becoming common practice I expect there are plenty of people out there who don't check their details carefully who could be driving without adequate cover.
As pointed out in my title I want to make people beware of this possibility.0 -
How can you abuse the system?
There are plenty of mainstream insurers who include it.
Eg Aviva tried to drop it a while ago, found others didn't follow suit and now include it (and on their RAC policy even give it to the main driver even if not the policyholder!)
Young and maybe not so young drivers have been known to insure a cheap car then drive a go faster motor:rotfl:Aledgedly:rotfl:
Per RAC sample policy document.ONLY if this extension is shown on the current certificate of insurance.
Would you care to name a few of those mainstream insurers who include this as a standard no cost option?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Reverend- as far as I remember, it was pretty much standard in an insurance policy when I started driving (12 years ago). It has changed now, unfortunately, may have been an extra removed to cope with the cheaper quotes from internet companies.0

I already did! (You quoted one of them!)Most people wouldn't split hairs over the certificate being part of the policy documents!"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Your sarcastic comments do not help the OP.
As I posted RAC ONLY cover when this EXTENSION is stated on the Certificate of insurance.
How am I being sarcastic?
All insurers say this.
Usually you have to qualify by age and by type of cover taken to get the DOC extension - though you know that!0 -

Esure, Provident thru' Kwik Fit are two more.
The problem is, even if you go through a broker it's never a question you ask, and the broker normally won't have a list of everything that isn't included, so you will never find out until it's too late.
Bit the same as european cover when it used to be whatever you had in the uk, ie fully comp, tpf&t, now in the small print it's usually down to the minimum required unless you buy extra when you go.0 -

I agree and it's a good motivation0 -
My concern is that those who don't check will only find out when someone tries to make a claim against them (and the injured party will be the one to lose out).
Anyway I have now cancelled my policy with Barclays.
I went through the comparison service and it would seem that the first few quotes were from companies who were part of BISL and these did not include the cover.
I eventually took a policy with More Than - I did phone to check and was told that "yes it is included as part of a comprehensive policy, just finish the quote online" - didn't even have to give the quote number.
I will still be complaining about the cancellation fee I'm now being charged by Barclays.0
