Thanks Wilf-I'm going to sort out our finances if it kills me! We've sold loads on ebay including DS's old bedroom furniture so that should give us a bit more money. I've got about £50 in expenses to go into my account too soon so that should get me through the month. Trying to spend not much this week-we're going to a charity race night on saturday but it shouldn't break the bank hopefully. Tickets are £6 and that includes dinner so quite a bargain and I'm not the sort to go mad on the gambling either! On nights tonight hence the late time of my post. I'm going to make an apple muffin cake as picked the last of the cookers from my apple tree. Also was going to make my chrimbo cake but have no greaseproof paper-also have no brown paper for ebay stuff either-how annoying I'm sure we had both! I'm going to do day 12 of my 30 day shred as well. I went up to level 2 yesterday and my goodness it was a bit of a shock to the system-it was so much harder!

  • My apple muffin cake was sooo nice if I may say so myself! Also made my Chrimbo cake last night and that turned out really well too although the proof will be in the eating in a month time! Had my expenses paid in so that was over £50 which will be a big help. My food budget is a bit tight for the last bit of the month but will just have to cut back and hope that I find some bargains at Sainsburys in the reduced bit tonight so that my money goes that bit further. Need to get petrol as well which will eat into my budget even further but what can you do? Have a 5p off Tescos voucher to use so hopefully my £30 will go further. Going to have a look on the Old style board now to get some inspiration. Plus must do my ruddy ironing-how I hate it!

  • HI beckseven, just wanted to say good luck and that you seem really focused, i'm sure you will get rid of your debt in no time.
  • Hello I haven't been on here much because the internet is forbidden at work and I didn't want to get into trouble! However i have been doing quite well on the old debt clearing front thank goodness. We've reduced our joint overdraft to £1654 from £2050 which i'm really pleased with. I still think i'm spending too much though and need to get it in check. I just seem to spew money out!

  • Bit of an update-dh has been suspended from work so facing a tricky position financially. i'm going to strip non necessities from our outgoings-sky etc go from there. Going to Aldi tonight to do the food shop-went there on Saturday and was impressed so looking forward to see how much I can save tonight. Dh is at an investigatory meeting at the moment so won't know more till later but we both know he's done nothing wrong so hopefully there is a good outcome. Good wake up call on spending anything though as one wage could immediately stop so this is serious. Couldnt have come at a worst time just before Christmas but I have bought and paid for the kids toys and my niece and nephew but any other presents will have to be scrapped.

  • Spent £65 on my food shop this week-I'm ashamed to say that I normally spend £90 so this is an amazing improvement and will hopefully start to do even better than this soon. This does include 54 nappies and a pack of pyjama pants plus baby wipes so not too bad. I went to Aldi and spent £45 in there and then £20 in Tescos. OH was impressed with how much I bought-butternut squashes were 69p. We had tuna pasta for tea that hit the spot and was made for next to nothing with value tuna flakes and a 39p passata from aldi and a sprinkle of left over parmesan and some mixed herbs. I'm on nights now doing some extra shifts so this will bring in more money. really shattered though-don't know how i'm going to make it through the night! going to read up on more tips on food and shopping on the os board so I can bring my bill futher down. Mind you it's Christmas next week so doubt food bills going to be that low but will give it a good go!

  • Just wated to send you a big hug, hope everything works out for you and OH with his job, well done on getting the food budget down.
  • Thank you very much pennywisepoundstupid. DH had his investigation meeting-I think it went as well as can be expected. next stage is the disciplinery process so all we can think on the positive side is that we hope they string it out a bit as he is still getting paid at the moment so that we have a full months pay to get us through January. i have never been so careful with my money in December before which I guess is a positive! I'm trying to keep DH spirits up as he is very down at the moment-I think it is the horrible uncertainty of the future-if we know one way or another we can put a plan of action in place but all we can do is economise as much as possible to buffer things. This has really reenforced for me how important it is not to have debts-it's made me more determined to get rid of them when we know where we are again. We had a super economy supper of 10p noodle, whoopsie chicken drumsticks, green beans and 8p mr ts curry sauce. it was really nice-i'm quite a resourceful person so am going to really apply myself to making our food budget stretch. The only problem is christmas-Ive got a gold dust online shopping delivery booked for next week but it's for waitrose-the only slot i could get as all the other supermarkets had gone. I really don't want to lose it-have ordered my turkey breast, sausages, bacon and stilton from the butchers already so think will order the minimum £50 from there and go to Lidls before hand to get nappies, wipes, and stuff that I will not pay waitrose prices for! I'll write a list tonight to see what I need and plan from there.

sorry to hear about the issues with OH. That is pretty tough to deal with just before christmas.

Well done on keeping your focus. Have you checked all of your insurances and utilities to make sure you are getting the best deal?
