  • Morning...glances at clock on pc and realises its afternoon !! :jSo afternoon....hope that the vets goes okay...I have to admit when my two were little we had a hamster....called Georgina.

I had been away at my parents one weekend and the little one's were with their dad for the weekend, when I realised that I hadn't seen or heard Georgina for a couple of days ....I felt so guilty cos I hadn't noticed for a couple of days...and the kids had never mentioned it either :o but she was laying dead in her cage....

I didn't mind her when she was alive but when she was stone cold I just couldn't bring myself to pick her out of the cage and made my then hubby do it...(he is a farmer - and used to handling dead things) I remember the kids were very nonchalent about it all....(farmers childrens are used to life and death) but I was heartbroken...:( needless to say we didn't have any more hamsters than that one...

not good news on the Tinkerbell front i'm afraid vet think she has kidney pcos which means shes got a build up of fluid in her stomach but they need to xray her to confirm this which costs £30 but they they didn't charge me for the consultation seeing as it was our first visit with her which was lovely of them x

so we have an appointment tomorrow at twelve for the xray to see whats happening and if it is fluid they'll drain it but warned us it could go either way......i think i'm more gutted than the kids just now i guess cause i understand what theyre saying but with kids it won't sink in til unless i come back without Tinkerwell :(

    SHE'S GONE

The phoned me at 6pm and said the xray showed fluid and they drained 5ml but it was pure blood....he asked did i want to continue but I said no and asked him to put her to sleep.

Hung up the phone and burst into tears, told the kids abbie is gutted xander I think is too young to understand said we need to go to the pet shop and get another one lol

So picking our little tinks up tomorrow and we are burying her in the back garden.

Abbie has a shoe box she wants to put tinks name on it bless her

the only thing it's my grans birthday tomorrow and shes coming over before abbie comes back from school so we can take her out for dinner and i feel bad i need to bury her with my gran being there but she loved tinkerbell as well so i'm sure she won't mind x

need to find a shovel tho x

  • Sending you hugs hun, sorry to hear about your hamster, hope the children are okay. I too have had to bury hamsters & guinea pigs in the past, my chidren (dramatically) held a funeral service in the back garden with prayers !! Kids do bounce back quickly so i hope they are ok.

  • Oh hun :( i'm so sorry, just last yr my ds1 lost his cat (a week into boarding school so wasn't even here), he'd had him since his 5th birthday and was only 7 yrs old but had problems and my son was traumatised....but younger kids don't really understand like you say. He soon got over it though although he still talks about him sometimes, i printed off a picture so that he could bring it to school with him and he's much happier now. I'm really sorry for you all losing a pet is awful.

I'm sure your nan won't mind at all *big hugs* xxx

Aww poor Tinkerbell, sorry to hear that she's no longer with you. Kids do bounce back remarkably quickly, we lost one of our cats a few years ago and a few days later they were both asking when they could get a new one. Animals quickly become a part of our lives and when they're gone they do leave a void.

    Take care xx
